Tala Esera, QB Recruits, Mat McBriar

After non being re-signed by the Dolphins, Stephen Tsai reports that Tala Esera has signed with the Colts.
I just wanted to update you regarding Tala Esera. He signed a futures contract for 3-years with the Indianapolis Colts. Tala, his wife Nadia and four kids are still in Miami. Tala will take part in the Colts’ off-season conditioning program from early April. Before then, Tala will return to Scottsdale, AZ and train with Chad Ikei, who trained him for the combine.
Take care.
Coltpower.com has more info and analysis.
One of the assets that he possesses is that he had to pull out, trap, and sprint out on screens in June Jones' offense. He will use all of those skills he learned as a tackle in his system in college as a guard in the Colts system. It's especially noteworthy that his skill set translates very well to the slants and stretch plays that Indianapolis uses in the running game.
And some bad, though not unexpected recruiting news from Dave Reardon.
OK, no real surprise here. … But we have it on good authority that the two quarterbacks Hawaii was expecting to sign on letter of intent day will go to SMU instead, following June Jones and Dan Morrison.

Bo Levi Mitchell and Kevin Craft, we hardly knew ya.
And as he gets ready for a playoff game against the Giants, former UH and current Dallas punter Mat McBriar talks to the Sydney Morning Herald.

UPDATE: I was curious about Tala's fellow offensive tackle from the 2006 UH team, Dane Uperesa, and it turns out he was signed to the Bengals offseason roster last week.
The Bengals signed four players to their offseason roster. All four were on the Bengals practice squad as the season concluded and signed two-year contracts. They are defensive end Titus Adams (Nebraska), center Kyle Cook (Michigan State), safety Nick Turnbull (Florida International) and offensive tackle Dane Uperesa (Hawaii).

Although I'm grateful for JJ's accomplishments at UH, I don't think he should show up to the parade of champions. It's only going to stir up emotions (and anger in some) and distract from the new head coach search. I think Gilbride would be a good choice!
