June Jones Resigns

Stephen Tsai has updated his article and his blog. I can't believe it. From the article:
June Jones has resigned as University of Hawaii head football coach, according to his close friend, Al Souza.

Jones resigned this morning, citing among other things a lack of loyalty and commitent from athletic department leaders.

"This breaks his heart," Souza said of Jones' decision to leave.

Jones sent letters to friends announcing that he is resigning after nine seasons. He thanked his friends for their support in the letter, in which he listed several reasons why he would no longer coach at the school.
From the Warrior Beat:
Souza said Jones broke down in tears as he mulled his decision last night. "He cried like a baby," Souza said. "He doesn't want to leave."
But Souza said each item on a long list of Jones' requests for his staff and program was rejected, leading to Jones' emotional decision.
"This breaks his heart," Souza said.
I'm still holding out hope, some last second change, or something. This is unreal.

UPDATE: Here's a Chawan Cut compilation of KGMB's 5pm news regarding the letter. Be sure to check KGMB's sports page (and all the other stations for that matter) for updates this evening.

This is a freaking nightmare. I cann't believe HF let things spirala so out of control. I didn't think that even he could screwup this badly. This is unbelievable.

    HF must be canned/fired/resign.

And I thought that losing to Georgia was depressing!! That was nothing compared to this.

The really sad thing is that we will continue to have the same problems as long as these issues aren't cleaned up now.

Jones and Frazier are caught in a system that does not reward competence. That system is called the State of Hawaii. Surely some of Frazier's mistakes were all his, however, the State is to blame for the lack of commitment to improve on the issues that Jones have been talking about for years. The State did not step up so it loses. The loss of good people in this State is a common occurrence that I have seen first hand. At a certain point, banging ones head against a wall is no longer bearable. Good luck to June and his hardworking staff and thanks for the memories.

David McClain (UH President) and Virginia Henshaw (UH Chancellor) need to act IMMEDIATELY and decisively by firing Herman Frazier! What a moron. Thirty to forty thousand of us traveled to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl because of our support and love for Coach Jones and his football team.....NOT for HF, who made the trip as difficult as possible for us.

P.S. - in summary... HF SUCKS! Get rid of him... save Hawaii and our team and GIVE JUNE JONES the salary and administrative support he deserves!

This is a nightmare beyond any possible expectation. If you had told me this was going to happen 6 months ago, I would have laughed.

The legislature/mayor/governor/city council better get on this and save the day.

The amount of money they spend fixing this disaster will be only a fraction of what they will spend to cleanup the mess if JJ leaves.

Tombo, I am so frustrated being in LA and watching this unfold. If I were in Hawaii I would drive right to Frazier's office and give him a piece of my mind. This is unreal!!

The University is about to dumb 40 million into the West Oahu campus, while the main campus falls apart. While the State is to blame as well in this, the UH is more so

EVERYBODY, WE MUST MAKE A PETITION. SAVE JUNE JONES. JUNE SAID IT WAS NOT ABOUT SALARY, BUT LACK OF FUNDING FOR FACILITYS. SO IF EVERY UH FAN DONATES TEN $, THEN THAT WAS BE PLENTY ENOUGH TO ENTICE JUNE JONES BACK.

DO NOT LET THE SYSTEM RUIN WHAT THE GREATEST SEASON EVER HAS ACCOMPLISHED. IF WE DONT GET JUNE BACK THEN ALL WILL BE LOST

If JJ is indeed gone, I will never give Hawaii any money as long as the current president, chancellor and Herman "it's never my fault" Frazier, are still in position, even though I spent part of my undergrad there and went to med school there.

If anyone has the chancellor's email or even Frazier's, please post it. I am desperate to try anything at this point.

If someone circulates a petition, I will sign.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

A petition to fire Frazier has been posted on STsai's blog in his most recent news article. It just went up and signatures are being submitted every minute. I have signed and urge everyone else to join. This may be our only chance.

From June Jone's Foundation's website: Eō nā toa, eō nā toa e! This is a simple chant that comes with a deeper meaning suitable for any person or group who with others is challenged to respond as would ancient warriors to the call of battle. It literally means "Respond fellow warriors, respond with one heart to the challenges that lie ahead of us."

Let's respond and do something asap. Can't we do a march or some public demonstration showing our support for JJ that will get media attention so he sees it?? We need to act fast and do our part!!! Any other ideas??? Warriors, let's respond!!!!

We need to whatever it takes to keep JJ, by finding out how the boosters can force UH to meet most of the 19 requests.

Some one with mana at the legislature and at UH must start knocking heads right now. We need to work fast to get JJ back.

As for HF, let me know when they break out the tar and feathers. HF needs to go!

If Jones is indeed gone, who will be our next coach? While Hawaii should try to make a play for Jones to stay, they can't drag their feet too long (again) because of the impact on recruiting. Is next year's schedule even finalized yet?

Please read!! Comment on Stephen Tsai's blog from: SteveM [Visitor] · http://home.hawaii.rr.com/smurashi/tsai-kos

OK folks... we've just got the word and advice from ST...
    Comment from: Stephen [Member]
    Re: Frazier/Jones
While Frazier is a source of Jones' irritation, like I've told readers in private conversations, for the moment, UH fans should focus on keeping Jones. Don't make Frazier part of the debate.
Jones was moved by the outpouring of love. If UH fans are interested in keeping him, work on that aspect.
McClain will never get rid of Frazier, so I wouldn't waste energy in that effort.

Per Al's advice today, I sent a message of support to June Jones at:

junej@hawaii.edu /> Please do so if you haven't already.

Any other ideas on how to get the support wishes out to JJ?

I like the idea posted a little earlier about donations. It may be too late already but I think there are a lot of people ready and willing to assist in the facilities situation. If someone in Na Koa asked the public for assistance in say getting the locker rooms upgraded I would like to believe the people would pledge time, skills, money and supplies to get the job done. We already get things done by volunteers in the public schools, why not the University? Wouldn't you think June and the team would be moved by the outpouring of love by the people and maybe we could get something done on the campus for once.

For those of you still up. Please check out the entry in the Hawaii House Blog that just went up. It has a copy of the letter that I wrote to President McClain and Chancellor Hinshaw, as well as some additional comments.

You can find it here: http://www.hawaiihouseblog.blogspot.com/

You might want to add your comments since people at the Legislature read this blog.

This has been going on for months and only now the people are acting on it? Better late than never ? The UH forum saw it coming along time ago and so did other colleges. The door was wide open for JJ and no one from Hawaii even gave him a hoot (LL, gov, McClain, Hinshaw, & AD Frazier). LL, and her crew are the ones responsible and just wanted the money to go somewhere else. Politics as usual, business as usual and who suffers? The State of Hawaii and UH system and most of all the fans of Hawaii UH sports!

Linda Lingle should be held accountable for this, she is the governor of this state and ignored the pleas of the entire UH student population!
