Gameday
January 1st is finally here. Sugar Bowl in the Superdome. I woke up with butterflies in my stomach, and all I gotta do is watch the game. Just read the news articles from the past couple days to know what this game means to the players, coaches, and the fans. Check out this morning's article from Michael Tsai, who captures the craziness of the fans and the atmosphere here in New Orleans. So many people have traveled so far and spent so much money just to be a part of this day. I've talked to several people who flew and drove for practically a whole day just to get here, leaving on a red eye, catching multiple connecting flights, and finally driving six hours from Houston, or catching a train from the East Coast. And they gotta do it all over again on the return trip. I'm just amazed at what some of these fans have gone through to come out and support this team. So I just wanted to say a big thanks to them.
I also wanted to give a shoutout to the Georgia fans we've met so far. They've been really classy and fun to talk with. We met "Merv" who posts in the comments of the Warrior Beat, and he had a lot great things to say about the UH fans and the team. Even the trash talking has been fun and good-natured, despite of all the alcohol involved. The only surly Hawaii hater that I've encountered was some reporter from Texas (or so he said) who kept asking me and Chawan Cut in a drunken slur "Why do you think your team even deserves to be here?" "You're schedule was pathetic, you truly believe you belong here?" and other variations on the theme. It was like watching a message board troll come to life. But I even give that guy a shoutout, as it was pretty funny. And I don't envy the hangover he must have this morning.
And to answer his question -- yes, we do belong here! Not just because UH went undefeated and hurdled all the obstacles placed in front of it or any non-BCS team trying to make a BCS bowl, but because, and ask any UH fan, we believe this team is truly special. From the stories of personal struggle and triumph in the lives of the players and coaches on this team, to what they've done bringing together the fans, the state, the t-shirt merchants, the ex-kamaaina living in California, New York, Texas, Florida, Japan, Korea, Germany and other spots around the world, and all the fans who never even grew up in Hawaii, but have just been taken with the spirit of this team and with the aloha from all the great representatives of this great state. It's just been an amazing time, an amazing experience, and for this team and for these fans, it's very well-deserved.
So here's to a great game between two great teams. I'll be decked out in white and green, waving my ti leaf, cheering my loudest along with the thousands of UH fans in the stadium and with those back home watching it on TV. It's gonna be an awesome game. You just gotta believe!
GO WARRIORS!!!!!

Hawaii football sucks. You belong in Division 2, not in Divison 1. Youare getting your ASS KICKED! You all had it coming to you... your piece of crap schedule playing against the Sisters of the Poor, and your attitude that you are an undefeated... is baseless. Your style of football is for woosies, your coach is a thug and a hack, and you deserve every bit of this.
If you can't CHEAT to win at home, you can't win at all. Just does to show you aren't worth a damn. Your football sucks. If Mich State had your schedule, we'd be 12-0 and at least give UGA a game. You suck.

After seeing how your thug of a coach, June Jones, tried to take out our QB Drew Stanton with knee-aimed chop blocks two years ago (we kicked your ass 42-14), and after seeing how you paid off the refs for phantom 20+ penalties in your last second victory over us in Hawaii (I never was shown where the flag was on the MSU DeAndra Cobb kick return for TD, among the 3 TDs called back at minimum).... I'm glad to see you get your asses kicked.
You have a SHIT schedule. You play crap teams in a suspect conference. If you had to play Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Penn State, Wisconsin.. every week, you would GET YOUR ASS KICKED and not even have a winning season. But, you struggle to beat San Jose State, and get a BCS bid???? You had this game coming to you.
YOU ARE AN EMBARASSMENT TO THE BCS and to the WAC. YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO PLAY IN THE SUGAR BOWL. You couldn't even put up a fight. It is embarassing. If you think not, you are blind.
I am glad that your performance matches your season effort -- playing Georgia ain't like playing SJSU, Idaho, or even Fresno St, is it? Finally, you are encountering some real talent to challenge you. June Jones coaches however he can to injure players and lacks any ethical conduct; his style of play is fancy but masks the lack of talent.
Brennan just got slammed to the ground. Just like your season. YOU DON'T BELONG. Go home and lick your wounds, and stay at the Hawaii Bowl -- the only other bowl you can get accepted to because you play the Sisters of the Poor every week.
I will make a move to the MSU Board of Trustees to transfer to the WAC so we can play your schedule and at least go undefeated to get at BCS bid. At least we'd be competitive. You are PATHETIC -- it matches the lack of ethics and dignity of your coach
Happy New Year --
In tears of laughter and joy,

Props to Hawaii for a great season. Coach Richt of the Georgia Bulldogs is a great coach and a great Christian man. Too bad the same can't be said for some of the Georgia fans who are unable to say anything except profanities in between their bites of fried twinkies and kissing their sisters. To all the haters, stop trying to live your failed or fantasy football careers through anonymous comments while hiding behind computer screens. Get on a treadmill instead and off your cousins' beds.

The Georgia Bulldogs absolutely DESTROYED Hawaii in a Sugar Bowl game where the Rainbows...uh, I mean the Warriors didn't even belong in the first place.
Hilarious!

Let me first say, I am a UGA student.
Now, with that out of the way I would like to say that for the past month I came on your fan sites and read nothing but trash talk about how Hawaii was going to score 40+ points easily. And I was worried to the point of believing it. Now I just feel like laughing.
I can't believe I was so naive to think that a WAC team could hang with any SEC team. After watching yall talk such a big game for the past month i just feel like saying: HAHAHAHAHAHA.
That was the most lop sided defensive game I have ever seen.
YOU PUT TEN PLAYERS IN THE BOX TWO TIMES AND BOTH TIMES WE SCORED TOUCHDOWNS. That is sad Rainbow fans.
I would compare this game to "1989 Mike Tyson vs. infant" or "F5 tornado vs. Kansas trailer park".
Hope the perfect season was nice while it lasted. Because after the napalming yall received tonight, nobody cares about little ol Hawaii anymore. The "brotherhood" thing yall have going with your island team is great, but honestly nobody else cares.
Oh, and that sound you hear is Colt Brennan's draft stock falling. Don't believe me? Ask Troy Smith (tOSU qb from last year) how a shitty BCS performance affects your draft ranking.
Tell your Governor to hurry up and ship those pineapples too.

I went to the Superdome today for the concert and caught the pep rally. Your band, cheerleaders, and dance team are FANTASTIC. Does the dance team have a special name? I put one of the numbers they did on youtube and I have the entire pep rally on suckitsaban under the Bowl Guide and then clicking the Hawaii logo. Fantastic.

i gotta say how can the fans of hawaii say they played good. ur top player couldnt score a td and barely got yards. i agree with the georgia fan above bout mike tyson vs an infant. if they wouldnt have scored the td it might have been tyson vs a retarded infant.
Ur team next year will not win more than 5 games and all will be in that shitty thing u guys call a conference the WAC worst conference in the country. when 3 teams in the conference are 117 118 and 119 in strength of schedule and because they go undefeated they get a BCS wat a joke.
I was anticipating a much better game by Georgia. And the piece of shit jones #29 should have been ejected after the helmet to helmet hit and later his trash talkn with his helmet off. wat moron runs down the field with no helmet and trash talks like their teams is good HAHAHAHAHAHAHA JOKE.
thanks for the hilarious game and maybe next year when we are in that Chip game well look back at this one and remember a good chuckle

First, apologies for the lame-ass posters here who feel the need to be poor winners. Dunno why, some people just gotta be retards I guess.
Second, I wish you guys had done a little better, but it's pretty clear that you're not ready to play elite competition yet. (sorry if that sounds smug.) Maybe it's the recruiting differential, maybe just the level of competition you face isn't consistently high enough. Regardless, I hope the team takes the experience and uses it to surprise the Gators next year. I have to give your team props, they didn't stop giving it 100%, even when there was no way they could win.
The upside, I think you made a lot of new fans: Hawai'i got a lot of exposure, and that can only help... well, and that $2 mill loser's check won't hurt either. ;)

One other thing: I was thinking about this, and not to make excuses for Hawai'i, but I think the team didn't know how to deal with the environment at all. I doubt that you guys have played before a crowd even HALF as big as that before, while 90,000+ fans is standard in SEC games.
That shock, combined with UGA defense just flat out smacking the Warrior O in the mouth in the first quarter made it impossible for you guys to function. As a result, you really had very little chance after about the 3rd possession.

Joe,
No excuses are necessary for us. Your team is awesome and deserves to be in the national championship game. You guys beat us fair and square. I wish your team the best next season.
We did our best and got beat. Now we have to learn from this and hopefully improve. We have come a long way from nowwhere so we can still hold our heads high.
Here is to next season!!!!!

Where does all of this Hawaii doesn't belong stuff come from? Check stats from some of the other bowl games pass and present. Missouri destroyed Arkansas in their Bowl game and USC whipped Illinois like a rented mule. Illinois and Arkansas both loss by large margins. Nobody questions that they belong. So why all of these questions about Hawaii? No doubt about, they belong!

No, Hawaii don't belong in the BCS Before the ES discusses your poor examples, bottom line is Hawaii got its BUTT KICKED by Georgia. Look at Hawaii's rating of their Schedule Strength by Jeff Sagarin: it is #137 with a 56.53 score (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt07.htm).
Michigan State had the #40 schedule at a 71.0. What the ES is saying is that if you play shitty teams, you BETTER win all your games, but noone knows how good you really are. I'd love to see how Hawaii would have competed with 12 games in the SEC or the Big Ten. My guess is maybe a .500 record. Play Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois on the road every week instead of San Jose State, Nevada, Weber State, Idaho, Utah State. If you can't see that, you're blind. If Mich State played those opponents, they'd be 12-0, too (ok, maybe 11-1 or 10-2). Hawaii doesn't belong because they didn't play the competition.
Now to your examples, which backs up my argument.
Missouri - Arkansas wasn't a BCS game, and Mizzou beat Kansas and should have gotten the BCS nod; they didn't and whipped Arkansas as expected. Illinois didn't deserve to be in the BCS, and got the nod only because of Big Ten's Jim Delaney's demands for Illinois to move into the game, thanks to timely losses (Missouri should have played USC, not Illinois).

1. I apologize for the crude remarks from a few UGA fans. We all have fans we'd rather not claim
2. I was there. It was a fun game to watch as a UGA fan but can imagine the opposite was true for Warrior fans.
3. I think the national media did y'all a disservice hyping your offense like it did - trying to make the Warriors the 'feel good' team of the bowl season. Like you guys were some poor relations needing everyone's support. Yes, your offensive stats are incredible, but we now know they are not all that impressive when up against a truly fine defense - a defense the likes of which can be found in several SEC schools if not 5-6 other schools on the mainland. Stats don't win games. I think all of us expected more trouble stopping your passing game because of the hype and we started doubting the Dawgs ability to kick butt when needed.
4. Hawaii fans are fantastic. Absolutely the best I have had the pleasure to party with and exchange good natured taunts with. New Orleans was so much fun and it is incredible what you guys did to get there in such numbers. I have been to Vanderbilt games in their own stadium when UGA fans outnumbered home fans 10 to 1. You travel well and your devotion is remarkable and a tribute to your team. Congrats.
5. I keep reading about the infrastructure problems at Hawaii - lack of decent facilities, etc. You guys deserve better - you have the best natural draw with your location - fix the rest and you will contend. Everyone wants to live in paradise - for 4 years at least! Be sure to come to the Florida game next year - it won't be cold (geeze will it be hot) and you will see what the SEC does for it's football teams and other sports. Hard for a kid to turn down offers to play just on facilities alone. UGA's are beautiful.
6. Thanks. Aloha. Y'all come back now, y'hear!
