Game Week: LaTech - Thursday News

Here's last night's news, compiled by CC. KGMB profiles Keao Monteilh, KITV previews the game, taking a look "inside the numbers," and KFVE highlights Inoke Funaki.

The Louisiana Tech athletics website has a game day central page with info and links to various pages, press releases, etc.

LaTech coach Derek Dooley may have some tough decisions to make at quarterback.
Despite Taylor Bennett's inconsistent play during Louisiana Tech's two road games this season, backup quarterback Ross Jenkins isn't expected to get a lot of snaps on Saturday when the Bulldogs visit Hawaii.

That's because he hasn't proven to head coach Derek Dooley that he's improved enough to usurp the heady Bennett.

"I've told Ross he needs to prepare like he's starting. When he goes in, he needs to let the fans know how stupid I am for not playing him," Dooley said. "So far he hadn't done that. He makes me look smart. He did the other night (against Boise State) and he knows it. Ross has a good future, but he has to play better in practice and he has to play better in games when he gets in there."
Jason Kaneshiro writes about the return of Guyton Galdeira.
"It felt surreal actually being back," Galdeira said after running a few extra sprints. "A week ago I wasn't even thinking about football, now here I am. Got some rust in my knees but I think I'll be back into it."
"He was really respectful in his pursuit to get back on the team, he didn't want to come on if people didn't want him back," said senior defensive lineman and co-captain Keala Watson. "But it was an easy decision, everybody wants him back. We know what kind of player he is and how hard he works."
Kaneshiro also has news about Brashton Satele's shoulder injury, Solomon Elimimian moving back to the middle, Viliami Nauahi playing linebacker, etc.

Stephen Tsai has more about Guyton's return.
"Words cannot explain how I feel to have Guyton Galdeira back," linebacker Tyson Kafentzis said. "He is a juggernaut on special teams. He's an impact player. Everybody was waiting for him to come back — wishing, praying. And then it happened. It's beautiful."
Tsai also has some injury news, #2 QB news, and more news about the WAC's clarification of the Fresno officiating:
McMackin said Western Athletic Conference officials told him that Mouton was coached to do the right thing on a play that was ruled as pass interference.
In the WAC's response, McMackin said, he was told that Mouton was coached to "properly execute" that play.

McMackin did not ask for an apology.

He was told that another controversial penalty, a running-into-the-kicker violation against Calvin Roberts, was a "judgment call."

McMackin said league rules prohibit him from commenting on the quality of the officiating.
Now we know why Mack didn't want to talk about the play. It may be a "judgment call," but that's some horrible judgment. Here it is again:

And finally, Ferd Lewis has a top 10 list of all-time UH road wins. This past win against Fresno ranks at #2. Here's #1:
1. UH 6, Nebraska 0, 1955. Less than 10 months after getting blown out 50-0 by the Cornhuskers in Honolulu Stadium, UH went into Lincoln as 30-plus point underdogs for what was heralded there as the Big Red "scrimmage" before Ohio State. Never letting Nebraska get inside the 30-yard line, UH stunned a Huskers team coming off an Orange Bowl appearance.

    Good stuff Tombo!

Because Mack has class and cannot comment on the bad calls, I will. Those were horrific calls. As for a judgment call, even terrorist and murderers have judgment, albiet poor judgment. WAC said as much as it could in reading between the lines that UH got the short end of the stick again.

Beating Fresno, who is a national ranked team at Fresno which is a hostile stadium to players and fans that has an unnecessary walk of hostility, with an obvious biased officiating, coupled with Mack's 1st win against Div. I team, first win in WAC, and keeping the defense of WAC Championship alive is priceless. I agree that this is near the top of best wins.

I hope this win is the turning point of the UH season. Only time can tell if the boys' effort is now starting to pay off. I hope they continue to work very hard to represent our entire State.
