Training Camp Day 8 Reports (UPDATE - Blaze and Rocky Out)

UPDATE 2: Chawan's compilation has news about the injuries to Blaze and Rocky, from KGMB, KITV and KHON.

UPDATE: This is not good. Stephen Tsai writes that Blaze Soares and Rocky Savaiigaea are out for the Florida game, and probably even longer.
Leftside linebacker Blaze Soares and defensive tackle Rocky Savaiigaea will miss the Aug. 30 season opener against Florida — and, most likely, a few more games — because of injuries.
Soares has been diagnosed with a torn gastrocnemius, a calf muscle in his left leg. The recovery period is between six and eight weeks. He is wearing a cast.
Savaiigaea has been diagnosed with a tear in his left triceps. He also is wearing a cast. His recovery period is between four and six weeks.
“It sucks,” said Savaiigaea, who will have his arm re-examined next week.

Stephen Tsai updates his blog to report that Blaze Soares has a sprained left achilles tendon. Tsai also has notes from today's practice, including:
• Defensive tackle Rocky Savaiigaea said his left triceps remains sore. He also had an MRI, and will see a specialist today.
• Greg McMackin said the competition for the quarterback’s job is so tight it will take another day to name the starter. McMackin has pushed back the decision until Thursday, at the earliest.
Ryan Mouton was also limited to a few plays due to tendinitis in his knee.

Dave Reardon has some notes about Blaze possibly facing a long recovery time, true freshman linebacker Paipai Falemalu practicing with the second-team today, and a few words from Coach Mack about the QB battle.
“I don’t want to rush the competition. You can see they’re competing like a mother out there. And really all three of them look good. We’re going to give them another day to compete like that and then we’re probably going to get it down to two guys. Like I said it’d be Wednesday or Thursday, it’s probably going to be Thursday.”
bowstock has a report on WSN.
You could hear Gerke's voice booming from the ewa side of Hawaii's grass practice field.

"Hurry Up! Hustle back!"

He was hollering from the makai corner of the diamond head endzone.

I grabbed my backpack, sensing something special and shagged in that direction in a very unGerke manner to the otherside of field, up the hill, and behind the black-colored, 12', cyclone fence.

There it was, in full view--I could barely believe my eyes (and ears)--Coach Gerke--was abusing the OL...eh, that's good.
