Training Camp Day 13 Wrap-Ups

UH will have a closed practice at Aloha Stadium today and Thursday.
The Warriors are scheduled to practice at Aloha Stadium today and Thursday, in part to use the heat radiating off the FieldTurf to better simulate the steamy conditions expected to greet them at Florida a week from Saturday. The stadium practices, which are closed to the public, also give the team a chance to work with the 40-second play clock and the coaches' communication system.
Flordia coach Urban Meyer talks about having to deal with Tropical Storm Fay.
This is the Gators' final week of preseason workouts before game week starts for the Aug. 30 season-opener against Hawaii. Meyer is concerned about safety issues but, at the same time, realizes this is a huge week for his football team.

"My biggest concern is we've got to have these practices. . . . I worry about that weather," Meyer said. "We can't have wasted time. So we're just trying to make sure our plan is in order. We can't just waste those practices."

Meyer added, "We've got a good plan in place, if it doesn't just hang here."
Backup QBs Greg Alexander and Inoke Funaki talk about being the backups.
"You try to compete your best every day, try to get yourself better. You never know what's going to happen," Alexander said. "We all want to see each other do well. We're all competing, but we're all good friends too, so we want to see each other succeed."
"It's the coaches' decision and (Rausch has) been doing a good job - they both have, they're coming along great. You can't be upset that someone's doing well, especially on your own team. The only thing you have control over is trying to progress with whatever reps you might have."
Stephen Tsai writes about the movement along the offensive line.
Entering the Hawai'i football team's training camp two weeks ago, there was a three-way battle for the starting left tackle's job.

Yesterday, all three original candidates — Aaron Kia, Laupepa Letuli and Ray Hisatake — were in the first-team lineup at the same time.

Letuli was at left tackle, Kia moved to right tackle as a fill-in for Keoni Steinhoff (tweaked ankle), and Hisatake remained at right guard.
Brian McInnis talks to Tyson Kafentzis about keeping the Kafentzis pipeline going.
"It's probably going to be another 10 years until they're of age, but if Hawaii recruits them I'm sure they're going to get them," Kafentzis said of his half brothers Taren Rosa and Giovanni Kafentzis. "(Giovanni's) about 2 but he's blasting kids already. Taren just got into Pop Warner, he's a quarterback/linebacker. A big ol' horse out there."
McInnis also writes about Jameel Dowling's two interceptions in practice and Cameron Allen-Jones tweaking his hamstring.

Stephen Tsai has news and notes about tonight's Wahine football clinic, Dylan Linkner, Jameel Dowling, along with some injury updates.

Leila Wai writes about Malcolm Lane's family finally joining him in Hawaii.

Dave Reardon previews Hawaii's 3rd opponent of the season, Oregon State.

UH Athletics is launching a new website tomorrow.
In addition to a new design, the website will include streaming video with highlights, interviews, and feature stories about UH teams, student-athletes, and coaches.

HawaiiAthletics.com is the one-stop, online shop for everything related to UH sports. The site features a wide array of information as well as online ticket services, merchandise, and promotions.
And UH pay-per-view revenue as well as season ticket sales are up from last year.
