2008 UH Football Streaming Video

UPDATE (9/7/08): There have been quite a few changes to the products and/or info since this post was first written. The info below should now be up-to-date.

For those who watched UH sports through Hawaiian Telcom's internet packages the past few years, Oceanic Cable has taken the reigns, and offers streaming video of UH home games for the 2008-09 season. Here's a link to their sports schedule. Football games are listed at $12.56 per game and can only be ordered one hour before the event. There are some restrictions for Hawaii residents:
If you live in the state of Hawaii, you need to be a Road Runner customer to subscribe to the video streaming service. Individuals on the mainland or anywhere else in the world, do not need to be Road Runner customers.
Another option for those of us unfortunate to be stuck outside of Hawaii, there's this:
KFVE (K5 The Home Team) has signed a multi year contract with Hawaii IPTV LLC (TVfromHawaii.com), Hawaii’s global internet protocol television network. This agreement allows Hawaii IPTV LLC to broadcast select home UH sports live and on demand to its worldwide subscriber base beginning in the upcoming 2008 to 2009 season. With more than 60 games planned to be aired, including wahine and men’s volleyball and basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and Warrior football, Hawaii IPTV subscribers will be able to view UH sporting events from anywhere in the world outside of Hawaii on their televisions.
Ferd Lewis talks to KFVE's John Fink about the deal.
"It is a great opportunity for parents (of UH players) and ex-pats to follow UH, said John Fink, vice president and general manager of KFVE/KHNL, which holds the school's television rights. Terms of the deal were not announced. "It is like putting a cable box in your house anywhere in the world."
To use this service, you cannot be a resident of Hawaii. You'll need broadband internet access, and you can either buy a box to view it on your television, or use their new webplayer to view it on your computer. The box costs $125 with a $25 setup fee. For either option, you need to purchase a subscription of $21.50 a month or $180 a year. It seems like a pretty good deal, especially since there's a whole lot of other local programming to watch besides UH sports. Their schedule of UH games, which previously listed UH football games as being broadcast on tape delay, now show that they'll be broadcast live.

And pretty much anything on the ESPN networks will be streamed for free on ESPN 360. The catch is you must be using one of their approved internet service providers. Check out the Help/FAQ for more info. Here's a college football schedule from ESPN.com, which lists what's being shown where.
