WitP: Waivers, Injuries, Some Good News

UPDATE: Ashley Lelie was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs.

UPDATE 2: Kynan Forney was waived by the Chargers. Didn't expect that one.

Reagan Mauia and Jameel Dowling were both waived by the Cardinals. Kahuku alum Aaron Francisco was also released.

Joshua Leonard was waived by the Houston Texans.

C.J. Hawthorne was waived by the Buffalo Bills.

According to National Football Post, the Cleveland Browns reached an injury settlement with Melila Purcell.
The Cleveland Browns have brokered an injury settlement with defensive end Melila Purcell, according to a league source.

Purcell was removed from the reserve-injured list and is now a free agent.
An update on Colt Brennan's injuries, from Redskins Insider.
Quarterback Colt Brennan often said he would not make excuses for his poor performance during the preseason.

As I'm finding out now, it appears Brennan had, at least in part, one legitimate excuse: a left hip injury. Brennan suffered the injury in the Redskins' preseason opener Aug. 13 against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Redskins did not reveal the injury when it occurred, and Brennan - who had surgery to repair a slightly torn labrum in his right hip in April 2008 - continued to play despite the discomfort. But the injury had an effect on Brennan's mechanics, a league source told me today, and made it harder for him to operate within the offense.
And some better news:

Looks like Ryan Mouton, who is still recovering from a high ankle sprain, will be returning punts when he's healthy.
Rookie cornerback Ryan Mouton is now considered the favorite to return punts, but he might not be ready for the opener because of an ankle injury. Veteran cornerback Cortland Finnegan could fill in until Mouton is ready.
Jake Ingram got a rave review from the Patriots' kicker.
Gostkowski lauded Ingram’s work Thursday, particularly the long snapper’s chemistry with holder/punter Hanson.
The Daily Dolphin has a post about Davone Bess.
Davone Bess is a perfectionist — and proud of it.

As a result of his own high standards, the Dolphins’ second-year wide receiver wasn’t happy about his play in the three preseason games prior to Thursday night at New Orleans. In those games he had just four catches for 30 yards, with a handful of drops.

So nobody was happier than Bess when Dolphin quarterbacks Chad Pennington and Chad Henne went to him early and often Thursday. He wound up with team highs of five catches for 39 yards. Three of his catches resulted in first downs.

“This was a good way for me to get this little monkey off my back,” Bess said afterward. “I was happy to have this opportunity; now I want to carry it into the regular season.”
Jeff Ulbrich had six tackles and Isaac Sopoaga had three in the 49ers final preseason game.
