WitP: Bess, CJ, Elam

Davone Bess had some ups and downs in practice today.
Bess, an undrafted rookie out of Hawaii, has displayed some of the best hands on the team since he arrived. He had an up-and-down effort Tuesday, including two drops. On one, John Beck's perfect throw on a drag route bounced off Bess' hands for an interception. Bess also dropped a Josh McCown pass, but he made up for it with a catch deep down the middle, outjumping the defender and landing on his feet with no one in front of him.
4uhfan finds a video interview with Bess from the Miami Dolphins site. This page has a link to the video as well as a transcript. Here's an excerpt:
(On his goals heading into Saturday's game against the Buccaneers) -- "Obviously you'll find out on Saturday. I'm just excited to be in this situation and go out and have a chance to perform. Like I said, go out there and try to be mistake free. Make as many plays as possible and get some footage on film so we can correct ourselves and go back to the huddle and work on it."
4uhfan also finds a video from the Buffalo Bills site which includes a short interview with C.J. Hawthorne. The link is on CJ's player media page.

fuzzylogic just posted a whole bunch of stories in the comments of the previous post, and here's one of them -- from an article about Georgia Tech's kicker, Jason Elam talks a little about his UH days when he handled punts, kickoffs and field goals.
"During an [NFL] game, if [a multi-tasker] gets hurt, you lose three positions. In college, you have plenty of backups so you can get through that game," Elam said. "Obviously, you have to have the God-given swing for kickoffs and field goals and punts because they all are completely different, but I really enjoyed it because you got into the flow of the game a little more."
