Michael Tsai writes about Colt Brennan meeting 5-year-old Joshua Miyazawa and his family in Washington DC. Miyazawa recently had open-heart surgery.
Ferd Lewis writes about the 4-touchdown point spread UH faces against Florida.
On Sportshawaii.com, CoachKen has a good analysis of what UH can expect when they face the Gators in the Swamp.

The deadline for season ticket holders to purchase the discounted road PPV package has been extended to August 1.
======
Here's an update on former UH receiver Eric Shaffer, who is considering transferring to Arkansas, Ole Miss or Missouri State
======
Remember that time when UH decided to not take the full allotment of Sugar Bowl tickets because they didn't think they could sell them all, only to find out that they had grossly underestimated actual demand for the tickets, so they had to scramble to find tickets from various other sources but by then it was too late? Well, it might've cost UH $129,375.
His duties include serving as a coordinator for academics and recruiting.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with coach Mack and the other coaches," Tuioti said. "They're great guys."
Tuioti will be assuming a non-coaching position. With the demands of the NCAA's Academic Progress Report, which penalizes schools for failing to meet minimum scores, McMackin wanted a person to oversee the Warriors' classroom performances.Congrats to Tony!

"Colt is even nicer than we had imagined," said Joshua's father, Jeff. "He always came across as a humble guy, but watching him with Josh, he was like just one of the boys."
"They're a fun family," Brennan said. "It was a great experience. It was a privilege for me to meet him. It was awesome to hear his story."Jason Kaneshiro talks to Colt about his new contract, his healthy hip and how things are looking up.
"I'm more so glad that I got cleared medically and I'm allowed to go out there on Sunday and start working out a hundred percent," the former Hawaii and current Washington Redskins quarterback said yesterday in a phone interview. "I've got nothing holding me back and I got my contract done, and I'm just glad to get back in the swing of things."======

Shaffer said being away from his family was the main reason for him leaving the Warriors'program, not that Coach June Jones left for SMU.Best of luck to him.
"I have three younger brothers, and I wasn't able to see them but once or twice a year with airfare traveling back and forth,"Shaffer said. "They had a great coaching staff out there and a great offense and great players, but it was too hard being away from my family."

The Athletic Department originally underestimated demand for the game and agreed to accept only 13,500 of its initial allotment of 17,500 tickets. The remaining 4,000 tickets were offered to University of Georgia fans.
Hawaii eventually secured another 1,866 tickets from the Sugar Bowl and other sources to accommodate fans left empty-handed. But Clapp acknowledged that the extra tickets might have come too late in the game for fans to travel to New Orleans during the busy holiday season.
In all, 1,035 leftover tickets to the Bowl Championship Series game cost the university $129,375, or $125 each, UH associate athletic director Carl Clapp said yesterday.For $%&* sake. That's just brutal. But to put things in perspective, not nearly as brutal as Bert and Ernie banging out some blast beats.

1. Didn't UH Chancellor Hinshaw and Frazier consider any alternatives?
2. If you are worried about finances, shouldn't they at least try contacting people in the WAC or at least Louisiana Tech for assistance or sales?
3. Couldn't Hinshaw and Frazier stand on the street corners or outside the Super Bowl to scalp the tickets? Of course then the money count might be short with Frazier around.

The problem with the Sugar Bowl tickets is that many locals bought two sets of tickets to make sure they could go to the Sugar Bowl. Nobody knew if they could get tickets through UH. We bought 2 sets of tickets, and so did a lot of other people. By the time Hinshaw got the second set of tickets, there were more people selling their own second set of tickets at UH than people who went down to buy them. Everybody was interested in getting a better seat.
By the way, we sold our second set of tickets standing in front of the UH hotel in NOLA to a taxi cab driver. I didn't see Hinshaw or Fraizer standing next to me. Also, as you walked down Burbon Street, Georgia people were buying tickets.
Heck, if UH used its own legal scalpers, I'm sure they could have sold a lot of the tickets. Of course, it would be below face value. Isn't that better than taking a loss?

Hi KB, glad you got to go there.
Comment on Ferd Lewis article on Florida game, yes they have lost several players and it appeared that the defensive backs were their weakness. That is why Urban Meyer picked up a new defensive back coach with NFL experience in February 2008 to take over that area. I don't think Meyer wants any chance of losing to Hawaii--set the time of the game to the hottest, do everything to throw Hawaii off it's game plan.

if i recall correctly, one of the big problems with the sales of the tickets was that UH didn't put a limit on how many tickets someone could purchase. so taking a cue from the scalpers who made big bucks reselling boise and washington tickets, a few people bought up a bunch. throw that in with the chaos of it all, the holiday time period, UH not being sure how many tickets they could get back, i'm surprised it was only a 1000 tickets that were left unsold. but as one of the UH administrators said, they'll do better NEXT TIME.

Yesterday's Star-Bulletin article (Part2), the previous day's article (Part 1) and today's article shows too much confusion on the part of the UH Administration and the former Athletic Director Frazier. I am so glad the Jim Donovan has taken over from that *%&$# Frazier.
Yesterday's article doesn't outright say it but remember before and just after the Sugar Bowl there was a seeming disagreement with Chancellor Hinshaw as to what department would get to use the proceeds from the Sugar Bowl. Hinshaw kept saying that it had not been decided what would be done with the proceeds and that the "upper campus" also had a lot of needs.
Yesterday's article (which by the way Tombo did not yet put on this site) does have a short paragraph that Chief Financial Officer Howard Todo felt that that monies belonged to the Athletic Department. Thank god for some UH staff with common sense and knowledge to do things the correct way.

Tombo, you are right on with the unlimited ticket sales. The rational solution would be to let any season ticket holder buy the same amount of tickets. The season ticket holders should get that advantage for being a supporter from the begining. Any left gets sold to the public with a limit of 10 per person.
Florida is going to be hot. I've been to Florida in the summer. UH should train in full sweats at mid-day to simulate the heat and humidity. The boys better drink Sports drinks, Zipfizz, or take gels that the runners use.
