Receivers / More Miami News

Dave Reardon writes that receivers Jon Santos and Nate Nasca will join the Warriors as transfers, hopefully next year.
Santos was a Star-Bulletin All-State second-team selection in 2004 at wide receiver for Mililani. He was No. 19 in Scout.com's ranking of the state's high school football prospects, and was recruited by UH, Boise State and San Diego State.

The 6-foot-1, 194-pound Santos played for Glendale CC (Ariz.) in 2005, when the Gauchos won the NJCAA national championship.

...

Nasca, who led Pearl City to a state track and field championship in 2004, pursued track and football at Azusa Pacific, an NAIA school. He missed the 2004 football season with a hamstring injury, but played the past two seasons at receiver. He caught five passes for 113 yards and a touchdown last year and also rushed for a score. The 5-foot-8, 160-pound Nasca plans to compete as a slotback at UH.
Congratulations to both of them.

And Joseph Goodman has a special to the Advertiser about the Polynesians on the Miami Dolphins.
Surprised to even be drafted — and reunited with college teammates Samson Satele and Tala Esera — Mauia represents a trend for new Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller. The team is dedicated to modifying the personality of its locker room. In drafting three players of Polynesian descent and signing another, Cameron says he hopes to add a level of togetherness to the team's chemistry.

"(Cameron) knows that the Polynesian kids play with passion," Mauia said. "It's the love that we have for the game. We're a little different breed — just the way we are with each other and the way we are with the team. We treat each other like family. Coaches see it."
And Cameron has some praise for Mauia.
"He looks the part," Cameron said. "He was able to get lined up, which with fullbacks is the first thing they have to do.

"Our assessment of him—until the pads come on — we really won't know. But all indications, including what we saw in college, is that he's going to be a good football player."
Can't wait to see them playing together again.
