Glanville in the Hall

Donald Emmons of the Toledo Blade writes that Jerry Glanville will be inducted into the Perrysburg High School Hall of Fame.
Jim Leyland and Jerry Glanville — the two most recognized Perrysburg graduates in the sports world — headline a group scheduled for induction Feb. 2 into the school’s athletic hall of fame.

Leyland, a 1962 graduate, and Glanville (1959) made a name for themselves by having successful careers in professional athletics.

...

Glanville found success as an NFL coach, most notably, serving as the head coach of the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons. He led his teams to four playoff appearances. He is currently the defensive coordinator at the University of Hawaii.

Glanville was an All-NLL performer in football and was a key member of an undefeated team his senior year. He also played baseball and ran track.
Congratulations to Jerry! I'm sure he'll give a great speech at the ceremony -- right before he comes back to UH for spring practice!

In a Hula Bowl article by the Star-Bulletin's Billy Hull, there's a section on Ikaika Alama-Francis pulling double-duty.
Defensive end Ikaika Alama-Francis was on the field practicing for Sunday's Hula Bowl, but is still committed to playing in the East-West Shrine Game next week in Houston as well.
"It's going to be tough, but the plan is just to be ready and have fun," he said.

Alama-Francis has been ranked in the top 25 of ESPN analyst Mel Kiper's "Big Board," where Kiper ranks the top prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft, and was busy after practice talking to many NFL scouts.

"It's very exciting," Alama-Francis said. "Coming from a basketball team and talking to all these (scouts), I never would have imagined it. It's different."
I was going to wait till I got a bunch of other polls together, but that may never happen. Anyway, Niall pointed out a couple of polls from Collegefootballnews.com. In their final 2006 rankings, using their very own "CFN Formula", they rank Hawaii at 15th in the nation.
15. Hawaii (11-3) CFN Score: 18.23
2005 Score: 4.07 2005 Ranking: 88
The high-powered, 656-point offense was the difference in the overall score. Sure, there were Bad Wins over Eastern Illinois, UNLV, Utah State and Louisiana Tech, but the Warriors also pushed Boise State to the wall in a 41-34 loss and beat four bowl teams. Basically, the points put them this high.
In CFN's opinion polls, they rank UH at 21st. This is more great news and hopefully will lead to pre-season exposure for Hawaii. Thanks Niall!

Also from CFN, Pete Fiutak writes a Cavalcade of Whimsy column in which he laments that sportswriters cast their Heisman vote before all games are completed.
2. The Heisman has to be awarded on the day after the national championship
We all blew it on the Reggie Bush over Vince Young call last year, and after the ugly BCS Championship game, it's human nature to second-guess the choice of Troy Smith as the runaway Heisman winner. However, who was the second option? Darren McFadden and Brady Quinn both lost in their bowl games, and Mike Hart had an awful day against USC. Colt Brennan? Ray Rice? If nothing else, it would’ve been a fantastic debate. I’ve literally sat here for the last ten minutes trying to figure out what my post-bowl Heisman ballot would be (and I'm still not happy about it). I finally decided it’d be 1) Brennan, 2) Smith, 3) John Beck.
All the cards seem to be lined up for Brennan's 2007 Heisman Hype if he decides to return! Stay Colt stay! Woot woot!

UPDATE: While I'm here, Rivals.com ranks Hawaii at #23 in their really early 2007 pre-season Top 25.
23. Hawaii

Hawaii's pass-first offense will make sure the Warriors are routinely among the top statistical offenses in the country, but quarterback Colt Brennan makes Hawaii a contender for the next mid-major breakthrough. The Warriors were second in the WAC to undefeated Boise State in 2006, and they ended the year with a convincing win over Arizona State in the Hawaii Bowl. The only thing that will stop Hawaii from joining Boise State and Utah as a BCS bowl team is road trips. Two of Hawaii's three losses came on the mainland (to the Broncos and Alabama).
So there's some (really early) pre-season hype!

Also, I saw in the comments on the Warrior Beat that Jason Rivers was named to the Rivals.com All-Bowl Team.
Colt Brennan wasn't the only Warrior to have a record-breaking performance in a 42-24 Hawaii Bowl victory over Arizona State. Rivers tied a school record with 14 catches for 308 yards, which likely set a bowl record. Rivers' 308 receiving yards were the most in a bowl game since at least 1937. NCAA records don't go back any further. Rivers also caught two of Brennan's five touchdown catches.
Congrats to Jason Rivers! Colt was also named as an honorable mention.
