WitP: Patek, RGM, Forney, LaBoy

Former UH safety Jacob Patek impressed in Hamilton Tiger-Cats practice yesterday.
University of Hawaii product Jacob Patek, competing at the SAM linebacker spot, recorded the first interception of rookie camp after alertly stepping in front of a Chase Clement pass. Patek also made an acrobatic play to knock down a pass a little later in practice.
Ryan Grice-Mullen is among the "imports" battling for a spot on the BC Lions, but Lowell Ulrich of The Province thinks RGM will be a starter.
B.C. will start three imports this season and if you concede a spot to Geroy Simon and sophomore Ryan Grice-Mullen, that leaves returning veterans Cory Rodgers, Jerel Myers and Rufus Skillern to battle six rookies. The Lions could have as many as 16 receivers at the main camp, the largest of any position group.
Scout.com takes a look at the battle for San Diego's starting right guard position between Kynan Forney and Louis Vasquez.
So far on the competition front it looks as if Kynan Forney will get first chance to replace Mike Goff at right guard, after Goff wasn't retained and landed with the Chiefs. Although the Chargers are high on Forney -- they signed him to a two-year contract during the offseason -- he didn't take a snap last season.

Forney came over from the Falcons as a free agent, but the Chargers didn't want to tinker anymore with an offensive line which was already in flux because of injuries. Goff being among the most durable Chargers, he never gave Forney a sniff at starting.

But the team is also intrigued by Louis Vasquez, a third-round pick out of Texas Tech.
And Travis LaBoy will be inducted into his high school's hall of fame.
Standout defensive end Travis LaBoy leads the football-heavy Marin Catholic High Hall of Fame class of 2010. The class will be inducted on April 17, 2010.

Patek has always impressed me with his fast and smart play. I always knew he just needed a chance to make it. This guy in my eyes was the best unknown player to leave Hawaii in the past decade. I hope he has a long and great career playing football wherever he plays. NFL anyone?
