At 6 feet 1 and 200 pounds, Salas has a size advantage against nickelbacks. He also is fast enough to cause matchup problems for linebackers.Jason Kaneshiro writes about Salas, the offensive depth chart, as well as Brashton Satele's move to defensive end.
"People can't just line up a defender against him and take him out of the game," McMackin said. "He gives us a lot of options. He can line up as a slot at either side. We can line him up outside and throw to him there, or we can line him up outside and motion him to the inside. He's quick, he can run, he has great hands and he's tough to defend."
The value McMackin places on speed on defense led to the decision to move the 255-pound Satele to the front four. Here's the offensive depth chart from Tsai's article, with player classes added:
"The most important aspect to a defense is speed," McMackin said. "We want to get all of our fast players on the field and our best 11 on the field. Brashton isn't being moved because he got beat out. At both ends, you need speed."
