Recruiting, Ching Field, Evening w/Colt

Stephen Tsai writes that Kahuku's St. John Lessary will walk-on to UH as a punter.
Lessary, who is 6 feet and 190 pounds, can play running back or receiver. But he will be used as a punter, a vacant position on the Warriors' spring roster, when he reports this summer. Tim Grasso, the punter the past two seasons, completed his NCAA eligibility at the end of the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.

"He can run, and he can catch," Kahuku coach Reggie Torres said. "They're getting the whole package. He brings versatility to the program."

Torres said Lessary boomed a "few 60-(yard)-plus punts — not rolling, but in the air."

Lessary's punting earned him the Most Valuable Player honor for a victory against Farrington.
Tsai also takes a look at some of the recruits and how the overall recruiting season has gone for UH.
Palo Verdes (Nev.) High's Liloa Nobriga, a defensive end who attended 'Iolani School as a freshman and sophomore, is split in deciding between UH and Colorado.

Wai'anae High defensive tackle Wade Keli'ikipi, whose older brother West Keli'ikipi was a UH running back, is now mulling a late offer from Oregon.

Still, the Warriors, who started their recruiting drive last spring, appeared to have weathered challenges from several prominent programs.
Paul Honda talks to Kalani Brackenridge about committing to UH to play both football and baseball.

Stanley Lee writes about the ceremony to dedicate Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
Hawai'i football coach Greg McMackin said the field is "the staring point of what we want to do in the future."

"For us in football, it's going to allow us to come down when it gets rainy and won't ruin the grass fields," McMackin said. "And we'll always practice on Fridays down here. It's going to be a great addition for us."

Aside from UH sporting events, Donovan hopes high school football teams could use the new field in the fall and track teams in the spring.

"Our intent is to get other people to come in here to use it," Donovan said. "It's good for them, it's good for us because you're bringing athletes onto our campus. In the very least it'll encourage high school kids to consider going to college, and if they're really good athletes maybe it'll help them decide to come to UH."

The Advertiser has some info about tonight's Evening with Colt Brennan charity fundraiser at the Willows.

Dave Reardon lists some of the former UH players who will be in attendance.
Plenty of other former Warriors will be in attendance, including Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullins, Samson Satele, Jake Ingram and Tim Grasso.
