New Uniform Designs

From a UH Athletics Department press release:
The University of Hawai`i Athletics Department has unveiled the designs for its new home and away uniforms for the 2008 football season. Head Coach Greg McMackin presented the uniforms at a press conference, Wednesday, Mar. 5. This was the first public viewing of the uniforms, which were designed by Under Armour, "Outfitter of UH Football."
Some of the highlights of the 2008 uniform designs include:
* Use of the UH green (PMS 3435) in both the home and away uniforms was a priority
* The fabric on the jersey shoulders and sleeves has a tapa design.
* Instead of "Warriors" above the numbers, the "Hawai`i" brand is being used in order to provide greater university recognition. Also, the "Hawai`i" text size is larger for great visibility.
* The "H" brand is featured on the pants and above the player's name on the back of the jersey.
* The distinctive UH tapa numbers are used on both uniforms. * Only UH's green helmet will be worn for both home and away games.
* The silver road uniform, including the jerseys, pants, and helmet, will not be continued.
I really liked the mostly-black home uniforms, but these look good. Gotta see how they turn out. The UH website has side and back views as well, and I'll update this post with more from the news sites later today/tonight.

UPDATE: Tsai has posted higher resolution illustrations of the mockups on the WB.

Dave Reardon (whose blog just updated with even higher resolution pics) writes that people are liking the new uniforms.
So far the new uniforms are meeting with rave reviews.

All the players who have seen them really like them, as did the reporters and camera folks who saw the designs this afternoon.
So what do you think?

UPDATE 2: Here's a crop from the Star-Bulletin's version of the illustration. Can see the tapa design on the shoulders a little better.

Thanks Tombo. Cutting edge news. Do you work? I gotta give you credit!

The uni's look sharp. I'm excited to see the proportions and the tapa on the sleve. I think a black dry shirt with Hawaii on the front and the same tapa on the sleeve would be off the charts.

i just got home from work, and now i gotta cook! anyway, i'm trying to picture the actual uniforms, and i think they'll look good. i already miss the "tattoo" on the one leg though. anyway, glad the players dave reardon talked to liked it.

Yeah, something like the tatoo on the leg would have been good. Overall, I think it looks good. I'm glad the players like them. I know the players will like the undergarments and lighter shoes.

    Aloha,

I really think they are missing a piece of the recognition, "branding", cultural affinity by not having the tattoo on the leg. Let's start a drive to get the leg tattoo'd again.

The tapa on the sleeve reminds me of palaka prints. I'm afraid that you will not be able to see it from the stands. It will just blend into a green patch.

yeah, won't know till we actually see the print, but looks like it was made for TV.

They look ok... kinda like the orgean ducks unis... I donno, I've got mixed results, I really liked the all black home game suits.

all in all, mo money for the program and that's all that matters.

I think Hawaii will loose more games because of the uniforms...reminds me of the Oregon Ducks Uniform...do we not see any resemblance? The all black uniform was more intimidating for opposing teams...green and black now? Reminds me of back in the days when Hawaii would go 3-10. Lets hope the light shoes and extra protection will help avoid what happened before June came to Hawaii.

Ok..when McMackin said there would be some green...I didn't realize it was ALOOOT OF GREEN ! haha. Seems like the vibe of the "Warrior" is drifting away with more green. Its as if we're shifting from the Warrior era to a leprechaun era. Yeh Green..Yeh Warriors...ok I said it.

Ugly new uniforms. Good luck in Florida!

And oh yeh..I won't be surprised later down the road if McMackin changes the name, "Warriors" to "RAINBOW Warriors". haha. I know who will be happy camper if he hears it... Here a clue:
Joe Moore. Ooops..I said it out loud!

I look forward to seeing you all there in the swamp. Get ready for a pounding Rainbow Warriors!

I always thought Hawaii's unis were some of the more distinctive in I-A. I know about the UA switch, but I hate to see them go.

I like the road unis. Home ones are kinda meh to me.

The new look is great for the Team and the state. I kind of agree that the one thing missing is the tattoo on the leg, other than that the new uniforms look awesome.

Thank goodness those road uniforms are gone!

HI, TOMBO AS USUAL WTG W/ THE NEWS.

I like the concept but for the "Warriors" I prefer "masculine" look and it seems to color coordinated to me. I designed silks when I was into horseracing and too close a color coordination and they may look feminine......IMHO, at home I would like to see Black Helmets & Stockings.......or a darker green. On the road they should have Black Helmets, black lettering and black pants.........lose the green stockings for either black or white, that green looks so gay and I am a woman who likes to look at
masculine dressed guys, no fru fru kine colors. I am glad though that we have no orange or yellow colors in our UH colors. What happened to silver lined numbers that bounce off the material? I am sorry, I guess I DO like the concept, but looked way too feminine to me. IMO. I luv ya guys as always, just me again, have a nice day. And just keep it up........

I think the dark uniforms should sport the all green "pms3435" color since it is a dark green with white letters and numbers. The white uniforms should have a white pants so the Quarterback can plainly see his players. The original Kapa band was very appealing and should remain on. If they must have a black uniform, then keep it all black for special games.

Slowly "warriors" is going away..making room for sensually yours "green" wear. haha. I agree with wildwahine...the green sock HAS to go! To gay for my viewing... if they do go with it, when game time, they should put the warning before the game starts,

"due to the graphic nature of this game, parental discretion is advised".

Aloha! The new uniform with light green helmet to last year dark green helmet. The darker green look with black uniform and with tattoo represent the real warriors look. We need to look darker color and more tougher like the Oakland Raiders not compare to old days Tampa Bay Buccaneers (bright orange/white colors). The new uniform looks too soft and weak not a tough moke look. Come on let's bring it back to tougher moke look kine! Please no bring the "Rainbow Warriors" team next year. Let's keep Hawai'i Warriors football as our team. This will help the attract recruitment players from home and mainland.
    Mahalo

i believe tsai and others said the helmets will remain the same dark color. also the green in the unis will be darker than in the illustrations. i'm liking them more and more. just hope they re-incorporate the band around the leg, seems like everyone wants that to remain.

I'm definately iffy on the switch, the tattoo is what made the jerseys and i hate to see it go with the rest of you. They really look like oregon's jerseys which are cool. I just really dislike the green socks we need black for home and maybe white or green in my opinion for the away jerseys. But all in all we get alot more money and we did need that. Better facilities for practice will make a better team.

and oh yea maybe a alternate green would be awesome, and definately go with black helmets for home.

i like the old ones a lot more. The band on the leg was definitely unique and I liked the home and away jerseys. These dont look as good, dont stand out as much, and are kinda ugly. If anything, keep the old ones and just change the "Warriors" to "Hawaii" and make the font bigger.

I actually like both uniforms, although I believe Hawaii should consider using all green uniforms on an occasion.
