WitP: Chad Owens, Brashton, Bess, Manuwai, Estes

Chad Owens had 5 catches for 56 yards and returned 3 punts for 35 yards in Toronto's win over Edmonton.

Jets coach Rex Ryan has an update on Brashton Satele's injury.
The kid from Hawaii (Brashton Satele), he’s a good player though, but he’s out again with that ankle. I don’t think he’ll be at the scrimmage. He’s trying like heck to be out there, but I think he’ll probably sit out that scrimmage.
Miami coach Tony Sparano praises Davone Bess in this audio podcast, starting around 6:13 into it. Thanks to Cutter!

Vince Manuwai talks about how his knee is doing a lot better as he continues to recover from a torn ACL he suffered back in 2008.
Manuwai said his knee now feels 10 times better than it did during the OTAs, and he's gotten some work with the first team in camp and once again has worked alongside center Brad Meester. Manuwai said he's built up a lot of camaraderie with Meester in his eight seasons.

Manuwai still isn't all the way back and is fighting for a roster spot, but he appears to have a better chance of making it than he did during the OTAs.
Manuwai's teammate John Estes has stepped it up in recent practices.
Enter John Estes, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Hawaii who dominated in one-on-one drills at Wednesday's practice, according to CBS correspondent Jim Nasella. He'll be one player to keep an eye on in Jacksonville's early preseason contests, starting August 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With camp competitor Cecil Newton busy firing shotgun snaps over quarterbacks' heads, the backup job could well be Estes' for the taking.
