Colt Brennan was cut by the Washington Redskins today.
The Redskins have released quarterback Colt Brennan, the team announced on Monday.UPDATE: Colt talks to Jason Reid of the Washington Post. Some excerpts:
Brennan’s release comes on the heels of the Redskins’ acquisition of quarterback John Beck from the Baltimore Ravens.
Brennan appeared to be really struggling in Redskins training camp. He was returning to action after missing the entire 2009 season due to hip and hamstring injuries.
"I was totally surprised," Brennan said in a phone interview shortly after leaving Redskins Park. "I actually was walking off the field today and someone asked, 'How'd you do today?' I said I had a good day. It was a good practice, so I said I'd have a good rest of the day. It was definitely a surprise."
"They wanted me to have a chance early on in camp. They didn't want to put me in a bad position. Kyle told me I'm a kid who needs reps. Kyle's an awesome guy, and that's the only thing that's really kind of a bummer, because I love this coaching staff. They've been really cool to me and I was building a great relationship with them. But this is a business. They said they would do anything they could to help me. They told me they think I can play, so they just wanted to give me an opportunity to catch on somewhere."

Miami would be ideal. He could reunite with bess and rgm. Last year all 3 of their qb's went down. hmmmm?

Hard to see him going to some of the teams that people in Hawaii seem to "like". 49ers and Raiders are full up on QBs, as are the Dolphins. Really don't see many spots where Colt could fit in this year. Maybe CFL?

ugh. how about the bears? they've got cutler, but no one else worth mentioning behind him? Plus Martz is running the show now...

we should hope he goes to a team that has no long term answer at QB, Tampa, Cleveland, Buffalo or some place like KC or Minn, who could potentially provide depth chart opportunities for our Warrior.
If he goes to the CFL or UFL, let's just hope he gets a chance to play. I would just like to see him get the chance....

This isn't that much of a surprise when you look at the history of the NFL. No matter what, young unproven qb's always get sent away when the new coach comes into town. It's sad, because we all know colt can play and is probably better than some of the starting qb's right now. Best wishes to him and i hope he finds a more permanent home soon.

What a huge mistake for Washington.
But I think this is better for Colt. He was going no where in that franchise.

Vikings should pick up Colt and have Favre mentor him.

Better that he got cut now rather than later. Hope he gets picked up by another team real soon.
