WitP: RGM, Elam, Bess, Melila, Sopoaga, Colt, Kynan

Ryan Grice-Mullen returned 7 punts for 73 yards, 3 kicks for 87 yards and caught 1 pass for 7 yards as the BC Lions beat the Saskatchewan Rough Riders 35 to 20.

UPDATE: From Lions season ticket holder in the comments --
RGM has really worked on his game, looks relaxed, and is doing his best to get outside on our wide field. His punt returns the last couple weeks have been solid. He's going to break a couple before this seasons over.
Jason Elam is profiled as part of the Advertiser's Fab 50 series.

The Atlanta Falcons scrimmaged at Elam's old high school today.
“I’ve literally kicked thousands of balls right here,” said Elam, a Brookwood High alumnus. “It feels like home for me.”

Elam acknowledged having some flashbacks during the special-teams session.

“It brings back memories of old friends that I grew up with,” Elam said. “Hours and hours of practice all by myself. In the rain and all different weather conditions, just dreaming about something like this. Not be cheesy or anything, but it’s like living a dream.”
Davone Bess practiced with the Dolphins first team today and made some good plays.
Who's up?
WR Davone Bess, who replaced Greg Camarillo as a starter Friday, caught a long pass from QB Chad Pennington in the middle of the field during team drills. Bess also went up the middle of the field untouched during a punt return.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer has a cool picture of Melila Purcell going one-on-one with an offensive lineman in Cleveland Browns practice.

ESPN's Mike Sando talks to Isaac Sopoaga about why he likes offensive linemen walking on his back.
Mike Sando: You've got a 315-pound man walking with cleats on your back. What the ... ?

Isaac Sopoaga: There was nothing new here. My back gets tight from pushing 600-700 pounds per play [against double-teams]. Of course you need somebody -- I guarantee not no trainers; the trainers are light. That's why I look for somebody heavy. This is a Samoan culture traditional treatment other than lotion or Icy Hot. All you need is someone you know who is heavy, but not too heavy, because you do not want to just maintain laying on that field. I ask the O-linemen -- they are just the perfect size -- to just walk around so that they can loosen up my back.

Mike Sando: Some guys weigh 290. Others weigh 340. What is the ideal weight of a Sopoaga back stomper?

Isaac Sopoaga: The heaviest was a man who was like 360. He was one of our O-linemen three years ago, one of the free-agent guys. He was between 355 and 360.
The Redskins blog has video of Colt Brennan showing off his impressive dodgeball skills.

Pro Football Weekly has a profile of Colt.

And a big congratulations to Kynan Forney.
Right guard Kynan Forney missed practice on Friday, and for good reason. He flew home to Atlanta for the birth of his child, who came into the world Friday morning. With Forney and Vasquez out of the picture, reserve right tackle Corey Clark ran with the first team at right guard.
Forney is expected to return after the weekend and will be back in the mix next week.
"I wish his wife had the baby a month ago, but he'll be back Sunday and should practice Monday," Turner said jokingly. "I hope he brings cigars."
