WitP: Colt, Pisa, C.J., Isaac, Mat, David

Joseph White of the AP has an article about Washington Redskins quarterbacks Chase Daniel and Colt Brennan.
"Chase had an unbelievable career, and I had one, too," Brennan said. "We were both laughing because we always tell stories about when we were at the Heisman together, and now we're fighting for reps."

Brennan sent Redskins fans into a frenzy last year when he completed 68 percent of his passes during the preseason, but Zorn was quick to point out that those numbers came against backup defenses. After a 9-for-10 game, Brennan said he was told by an assistant coach that his performance was "pretty horrible when it came to technique."

A year later, Brennan has a better understanding of what Zorn wants.

"With Colt, this year his footwork has gotten so much better and he's feeling more comfortable," Zorn said.
Redskins.com has more quotes from Zorn about CB and CD.

Rick Snider of the Washington Examiner takes a look at Colt battling Todd Collins for the #2 spot during the preseason.
"I really want to see Colt," Zorn said. "I think he's worked hard this offseason so that he can try to get that No. 2 spot. But then when you look at what Todd has done this offseason, you definitely can say that he's improved. He's not going allow Colt to take his position."
"The pressure's on, but I'm not afraid of that," Brennan said, "Last year, I proved I could play in the NFL. This year I have to be more consistent.
"There's no job security. You're either moving up or you're moving down. Right now I'm a third-string quarterback. I want to prove myself, be in the league a long time and this is the first step to that."
Here's one of today's practice highlights according to Redskins.com:
Colt Brennan threw a quick pass to Marques Hagans, who caught in stride and turned up-field for a big gain. “That was a great pass!” yelled a fan. “Controversy!” shouted another.
John Keim of the Washington Examiner's Redskins Confidential writes that Colt has shown improvement.
He still has his classic sidearm delivery, which resulted in his slinging a few completions over the middle this morning. Every time he does, the buzz from the crowd increases. They like this kid. Teammates like him, too; -- one said last year that when he possesses a certain swagger that others like. Some in the front office told scouting buddies that there's just ''something about him.''
Anyway, what was a little different today is the way Brennan stayed in the pocket and tried to go through his progressions. One knock on him by the coaches last year was that he abandoned the pocket too quickly. He seems to be making an effort thus far in camp at stepping up in the pocket, and not just trying to get outside. It's resulted in a few completions.

Larry Mayer of ChicagoBears.com likes what he sees out of Pisa Tinoisamoa.
Pisa Tinoisamoa has looked just like he did at the end of OTAs: He’s a very quick playmaker with excellent instincts. Barring an injury, I think there’s a pretty good chance that he’ll be the opening day starter at strongside linebacker. He made a pretty impressive play in Friday’s practice when he showed great closing speed to cause an incompletion by angling tight end Greg Olsen out of bounds. I’m not sure if any of the players Tinoisamoa is competing with for the starting job could have made that play. He’s also apparently bonding with his teammates. I saw him arrive for lunch at the dining wall with Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs.

C.J. Hawthorne made a nice move during the Buffalo Bills practice today.
Owens then took a step inside as Terrence McGeeclosed in on him, but quick cut on a dime and took it outside to the end zone for a five-yard scoring play.

C.J. Hawthorne pulled a similar fake late in 11-on-11 as he got about 15 extra yards on the play.

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows thinks Isaac Sopoaga has stood out during 49ers practice.
I though Isaac Sopoaga, who had several hits behind the line of scrimmage and batted down a pass, stood out.
From Barrows' Twitter feed:
Mvp for morning practice? How 'bout isaac sopoaga?

Mat McBriar was booming punts during today's Dallas Cowboys practice.
Early on they ran punt drills and Mat McBriar was booming the kicks, I counted at least three between 60-65 yards with nice hang time.

And David Veikune made some good plays during Cleveland Browns practice.
David Veikune laid a big hit on Lawrence Vickers, but on Vickers' next rep he stepped up and knocked Beau Bell back. Veikune later beat Jamal Lewis with a swim move.
