Spring Day 4 Wrap-Ups

Stephen Tsai profiles John Fonoti and talks to receiver Rodney Bradley about adjusting to the UH offense.
Bradley, who can run 40 yards in 4.4 seconds, said the "offense will allow me the chance to use a lot of my talent."

Now Bradley, who rotates with Joe Avery, is getting used to the workload. This spring, UH is using a platoon system, in which a second offensive unit sprints onto the field when the first team finishes a play. UH head coach Greg McMackin said the constant rotations double the number of plays the Warriors can run in team drills.

Bradley does not mind the added reps. Last season, he played in Navarro College's run-oriented offense.

The Warriors, Bradley said, throw "five times more in practices. (At Navarro) it was a lot of blocking."
Jason Kaneshiro profiles linebacker Viliami Nauahi.
After taking mental reps for most of his first two years with the Warriors, Nauahi is taking a turn in the spotlight on the field this spring.

While Blaze Soares and Paipai Falemalu continue their comebacks from injuries that kept them off the field last season, Nauahi has been running with the first team at outside linebacker in the Warriors' first four sessions of spring practice.

"I'm not used to getting all the reps," Nauahi said after yesterday's practice at Ching Field. "Now I've got an opportunity to show what I've got and hopefully get some playing time.

"From day to day I'm getting more comfortable, but there's a lot more to work on."
And from the Star-Bulletin Notebook, interviews with Bradley and graduate assistant Mike Smith.
Now he's taking in his first coaching experience as a graduate assistant on the Hawaii staff, assisting Cal Lee with the Warriors linebackers during spring practice.

"We have some good players, they listen and they try to take what we learn from the film room to the field," said Smith, who filled the spot held by David Gilmore last season. "We've got some good guys and it makes my job a lot easier."
P.S. Don't forget to watch the Tsai & Wai Show at noon HST. Tsai writes that Rich Miano will be the guest.
