WitP: Newberry, SWA, Colt

Although the Amarillo Dusters lost to the Arkansas Twisters in AF2 action on Saturday, former UH and current Amarillo DB Myron Newberry (pictured defending a pass) was named the defensive player of the game.

Shawn Withy-Allen threw for 148 yards and 3 TDs for the AIFA's Fayetteville Guard, but they lost a 50-49 squeaker to the Florence Phantoms.

And regarding the Washington Redskins' interest in signing another QB (currently Byron Leftwich), I hope Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch has some sort of inside scoops on Colt Brennan's standing with the team.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette first reported the story yesterday afternoon, noting that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has previously stated his desire to re-sign Leftwich, who does not yet have an offer from the team.

Regardless of who is the backup this season, Collins, 37, or Leftwich, 29, he likely would hold the role only until Colt Brennan is deemed ready for the job. Brennan, a sixth-round draft pick last year, is in the midst of a four-year contract. He has not played in a regular-season game.
Awww yeah, hopefully.
