Game Week: Cincinnati - Wednesday News

HawaiiAthletics.com and GoBearcats.com have released their game notes with info, storylines, etc.

Via KansasCity.com, The Sports Network has a game preview.

WCPO, an ABC affiliate in Cincinnati, has a game preview with video. Reporter Bernard Watson says that the Bearcats have more talent and "should win." Not to worry, he also brings up excuses should Cincy not win. Bases covered!

Stephen Tsai highlights the scrambling ability of Greg Alexander.
In the past five games, when he was the Warriors' primary quarterback, Alexander has scrambled 31 times for 230 yards, an average of 7.42 yards per carry.

Alexander has excelled when the Warriors needed 10 or fewer yards for a first down. He has scrambled for first downs in 63.6 percent (21 of 33) of those situations.

"If stuff breaks down or if guys aren't open, I have to make stuff happen," Alexander said. "I work on my footwork for drops, but never for scrambles."

Alexander, who is 6 feet 3 and 230 pounds, prefers not to use the sideline exits.

"If you go out of bounds, you're not going to get as many yards as you can," Alexander said.
That's a tough mother.

Jason Kaneshiro has some news and notes, and highlights the recent success of the UH offense on opening drives.
Whatever the Hawaii offense is doing in warmups, it's working.

The Warriors have scored on their opening possession in each of the last three games, coinciding with a three-game winning streak that has them headed to the postseason.

"We try to make a point to come out and score quick and set the tone for the rest of the game," UH quarterback Greg Alexander said. "It gives us a lot of confidence ... and we try to build on that."
Receiver Mike Washington talks to Kaneshiro about his career at Hawaii.
In a way, Washington wishes the end wouldn't come so quick, especially considering the Warriors' late-season roll after having to wait his turn for much of the previous three seasons.

At the same time, he's appreciating the time he does have left in a Warriors uniform.

"Fortunately you get one year, and that's an opportunity," Washington said. "Not too many people get an opportunity to do something special, to accomplish your dreams.

"I've just been blessed, I put my future in God's hands and everything's been for the best. I've just been happy and free-spirited the second half of the season."
Looks like JC defensive tackle Nathan Mageo, who committed to UH last week, has decommitted and will apparently sign with NC State.
NC State has landed a major target as Roswell (NM) New Mexico Military Institute defensive tackle Nathan Mageo has committed to the Wolfpack. Rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com, Mageo had been committed to Hawaii before visiting NC State this past weekend.
Alrighty then.

And Ferd Lewis writes about possible matchups for bowl-eligible WAC teams.

I wonder what Mageo would do if UH beats cincy and wins their bowl game, its not like NC state kicks ass or anything...and nothing is official till signing day

Sorry to hear that Hal Mumme got fired today. Good luck in his next coaching assignment. Go to SMU and learn the run and shoot then come back and start a run and shoot offense instead of the vanilla offense you did have. If you run June Jones offense, you will be competitive year in and year out. Just my 2 cents.
