Arizona to the Hawaii Bowl?

UH will be playing Arizona in the Hawaii Bowl if the Wildcats lose to Arizona State this Saturday. Hawaii Bowl director Dave Matlin discusses that and other scenarios with the Arizona Daily Star:
If the Wildcats lose Saturday, the consolation prize is a trip to the Hawaii Bowl.

David A.K. Matlin, director of the Hawaii Bowl, confirmed Thursday that Arizona will be invited if it finishes 6-6. The Wildcats would play the University of Hawaii, which earned an automatic bid to the game by defeating Washington State last week.

"We're thrilled with our Pac-10 relationship, and Arizona would be a great matchup with the Warriors," Matlin said. "If that's what happens, we would be real excited."

The Hawaii Bowl will select an at-large team if Arizona plays in the Las Vegas Bowl, Matlin said. Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Florida Atlantic, Central Michigan and Northern Illinois are all options.

"We have something to offer that nobody else does," he said. "We're not a BCS game, but we're in paradise."

I hope Arizona beats Arizona state so we can pick an at large team like Notre Dame instead. Arizona followers are mostly regional fans. Notre Dame followers are National fans. Hawaii and the Sheraton Bowl would benefit more from us playing Notre Dame instead. Just my 2 cents.
