Kevin Williams Commits

Stephen Tsai writes that JC cornerback Kevin Williams will become a Warrior.
Williams, who is 5 feet 10 and 175 pounds, is capable of running 40 yards in under 4.4 seconds.

At the scouting combine at Chabot Junior College this past summer, Williams was timed at 4.34 seconds in the 40. He ran 4.39 at an earlier combine.

He also ran the pro shuttle in 4.01 seconds. And he bench pressed 185 pounds 15 times.

www.Scout.com once gave him a 4-star rating last year.

Williams had received offers from Akron, Arizona, Arizona State, Memphis, Oregon State, Toledo, Utah State and West Virginia.

He actually had given a "soft" verbal commitment to Memphis this past summer.

"But that's nothing," he said. "Hawai'i is where I'm going. I like the program, and I like the coaches, especially coach Rolo."
Excellent news. Congrats to Kevin and UH!

UPDATE: Here's an article by Larry Weisbaum of USFNation.com from back in July, when Kevin was a "4-star" prospect.
Williams (5-10, 173) had a big season for Los Mendanos, showing the quickness and speed (4.39) to be a top corner prospect as well a return man. As a lock down corner, he posted close to 40 tackles, 28 pass break-ups, 4 interceptions, two sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery. On special teams Williams didn’t disappoint averaging 40.3 yards on 34 kick returns, with 2 touchdowns, and also scored twice on punt returns. Not bad considering he was projected as a receiver in college.

“I play receiver too, I’ll go up and get the ball.” said Williams. I didn’t play receiver last year, but I will this season.”
