NMSU Reviews, Recruiting, Etc.

Dave Reardon reviews five big plays from the UH vs NMSU game in this week's Warrior Replay.

Jason Kaneshiro has some season stats and a review of the game. Here's an excerpt about Greg Alexander:
But the zero in the interception column could be the most significant figure of the bunch. Since throwing two picks in the first half of UH's season opener at Florida, Alexander hasn't been intercepted in his last 92 attempts.

"He's understanding his initial pre-snap read and he's understanding how the offense morphs to the defense," UH quarterbacks coach Nick Rolovich said.

"He's really becoming a leader, becoming more vocal. I think we're in a good spot (at quarterback). Best spot we've been in all year. His decision-making was the biggest thing I saw."
Stephen Tsai writes that the coaches are hitting the recruiting trail.
This is the first time in recent memory that the Warrior coaches were on Mainland recruiting missions during the season.

This is considered an "evaluation period," during which NCAA coaches are restricted to attending practices and meeting with coaches and academic advisers. They are not allowed to have face-to-face meetings with recruits.

Still, McMackin said, "I think it's really important that we're visible, and (high school) coaches know we're recruiting."

The Warriors have received several verbal commitments. Without mentioning specific players, McMackin said, "You have to keep recruiting them and let them know they're important to you."
Great to hear.

Ferd Lewis writes about Greg McMackin laying down the law towards the end of the game.

And Dave Reardon has a Further Review column and reviewing the game and looking ahead to the final three regular-season games.
The offensive line played its best game of the year.

Also, the defense returned to good form after an off game at Utah State.

Now, not to kill the buzz or anything, but before we talk about winning out or starting the 2009 Heisman campaign, let's remember this was against New Mexico State.

That means I still want to see something like this against a legitimate defense before being really impressed.

UH coaches recruited around the Houston area last year when they were there between the games at Louisiana Tech and UNLV.

run-n-shoot is back. UH is looking better. I hope Inoke gets to play in option type situations to give different looks to opposing teams and/or think about him moving to slot. Inoke can truly hurt opposing teams when he is at slot.

kb, were you saying inoke should run some wildcat plays? that would be pretty cool.

I was surprised when McMackin virtually changed the entire Offensive lineup when they put Rausch in. I thought they would at least keep the Oline in, but even Estes was replaced. But, give them credit. They held the line, gave Rausch ample time to complete the plays and they moved the ball into the redzone and nearly completed a touchdown when Rausch hit Medeiros right on the money in the endzone. DK's field goal attempt went awry as well. Too bad, I would have loved to see Rausch get points on the board.

The Warriors are like a Phoenix reborn. These points were on the road against a team that is hopefully much better than Weber State. That said, the Warriors are much improved.
