Hawaii 32, Fresno State 29 (w/UPDATES)

The Iceman Backeth! What a great game for the Warriors!!! Nice, gutty win on the road against a great Fresno team. So great that they didn't commit any penalties. WOOOOOOOT WOOOOOOOT!!!!

Inoke Funaki's stats from the game:

Passing: 17 of 25 for 170 yards with 2 TDs and 0 INTs

Rushing: 14 carries for 79 yards for a 5.6 ypc average

UPDATE: Here's the AP wrap-up from ESPN.com (includes stats, pics, etc.)

Here's the Advertiser's wrap-up.

UPDATE 2: Ryan Mouton's kickoff return for TD made Sportscenter's Top Plays. Thanks to UHBows.

Forcing six turnovers while only giving away one.

A blocked kick that saved the game.

They still need to watch the penalties - questionable as they may have been, the pass interference in the 4th and the running into the kicker in OT almost cost UH the game. Plus the offense sputtered a bit but Funaki seems to have solidified his hold on the QB position for the time being.

Overall, a good, much needed win for the team.

WOW! I have never been more happy to be wrong (about my comment about the QB shuffling). Go Warriors! Hehe....I guess taking FSU out of the BCS equation is even stevens for the illegal hit on Colt last year.

While watching the game, the commentators said that UH could not really practice at the Fresno on campus stadium because they were painting the end zones and the doggy on the field when UH was scheduled to practice at the stadium. Sounds like terrible gamesmanship on their part--bachi for them!

Officiating was so one sided it was not funny. Come on, no penalties against Fresno? That running into the kicker against UH was so fake, he was on the ground barely moving and the kicker flops down on the ground--good for them that they lost!

Oceanic didn't even show most of the first quarter because of technical probllems--good thing we had the radio nearby.

Glad Funaki did well. So who will be the QB next week if Graunke is OK?

I know we will never get the Golden Screwdriver Trophy even if UH won--but Fresno did everything they could to screw UH. That must be their way of "presenting" the Screw to UH. But I guess that is better than throwing screwdrivers at the UH team.
