Warriors in the Pros: Bess, LaBoy

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano had more good things to say about Davone Bess today. From Ben Volin of the Inside the Dolphins blog, in a post titled "Not drafted? Not a problem. Davone Bess' stock rising fast"
But the one receiver whose name consistently brought forth positive reviews Wednesday was undrafted rookie Davone Bess, for his play at receiver and on special teams.
“First punt to the guy, he made a guy miss,” Sparano said Wednesday. “I mean, the guy should have made the tackle. Once he makes him miss, it’s a 23-yard gain. He’s a strong kid that has the ability to make somebody miss.”

At the end of the first quarter, Bess caught an 8-yard pass on second-and-8, stretching just far enough to get the first down. Six plays later, the Dolphins scored their first touchdown of the season.

“He caught the ball, he put his foot in the ground and he ran vertical, okay?” Sparano said. “And he got as many yards as he could out of the play. I think it was an 8-yard gain. But he caught the ball, turn, and ran it right up the field and got the first down on the play. So, I mean, when I see a young guy do those kinds of things like that, that impresses me.”
And Travis LaBoy's great game is mentioned in an Arizona Republic article about the Cardinals' pass rushers.
Other teams will provide a more severe test than San Francisco. The Cardinals dominated time of possession in the second half, so the team's defensive depth wasn't tested, because everyone was rested.

Still, LaBoy's final sack was impressive. He blew by the right tackle, grabbed quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan's jersey with one hand and swatted the ball loose with the other.

Berry called it "an exclamation point on a dominant performance."
