I think Joe Moore in his semi-celebrity status driven megalomania is overreaching with his comment that Jones is leaving for the money. When you're already making 800K/year, adding another million, while certainly nice, isn't going to improve your quality of life too much, given that all your time is spent at the football office. It's all about the support. UH offered things too little, too late, while at SMU he had great facilities and a firm commitment by the school and community to back him up BEFORE AND NOT AFTER producing a winning football team. (The UH President had the audacity to claim that he never heard any problems with the facilities until the end of the season.) I think Joe would understand if all of a sudden KHON started using plastic chairs and recorded in Betamax...he'd jump ship to KGMB!
In my humble, admittedly non-expert opinion:
1. Cal Lee -- Legendary High School coach. But he's not going to improve recruiting. He has no strong ties to the mainland.
2. Bob Wagner and Dick Tomey -- They did not produce consistent winning teams before at UH and are now languishing at a high school and SJSU, respectively.
3. Duane Akina -- Just got booted from his Defensive Coach position at Texas, why would we upgrade him to head coach?
4. Chow, Gilbride and Koetter are the ones with NFL or head coaching experience and can recruit. We should pick one of them. And God forbid Franchione applies for the job (who ranked UH 22nd in the last regular season poll).

yeah, check out lee cataluna's column today if you thought joe moore's speculation was bad.
my non-expert opinion: i think a nucleus of reinebold and the lee brother would be great for UH. reinebold's a great recruiter, the lee brothers know hawaii, ron knows the run and shoot, cal knows it too and knows defense. miano and lumpkin would be great too.
of course, mcmackin would be awesome. norm chow would be awesome too. just whatever they decide, they better decide it soon.
