Hawaii Up to #15 in BCS Rankings

UPDATE: Here's a link to an official release of the poll.

Wow again. UH drops in the polls, but moves up one spot to #15 in the BCS Rankings. It looks like we got more robot love than last week to push us just past Virginia. Boise drops one spot to #19.

Thank you Mr. Robot.

    Tombo --

I've had it with the politics, the polls, and the naysayers.

    Here's why:

    (a) It should be (plausibly) impossible for inactive teams to "leapfrog" a team that wins and remains undefeated. How can a team possibly become better than another when it doesn't play, and the other does, and wins?

    Ridiculous.

    (b) Tim Tebow for Heisman? Unlike June, and Colt, Urban Meyer has played Tebow against Western Kentucky (5 touchdowns); Troy (five touchdowns); and Florida Atlantic (six touchdowns). All are members of the Sun Belt Conference. Take those games and touchdowns away, and he's as average as the rest of the pack, and certainly WAY off the mark of the NCAA's best passer in history.

While Hawaii falls under daily scrutiny and harassment for its schedule, NODODY is talking about how we're BEHIND in the POLLS to a three-loss Florida team. Two of Florida's three losses came to UNRANKED opponents; THREE of their seven wins came against the Sun Belt Conference, AGAINST which any team in the WAC would go undefeated.

The system is flawed. There is no longer any doubt Hawaii, June and his team's overwhelming efforts are being snubbed.

No questions remain that Colt -- who has only played seven games and his numbers still rival those of any Heisman 'hopeful' -- is being snubbed.

There is only one way to win the argument: Win. Beat Boise State decisively. Beat Washington. Wind up in a bowl game against the likes of Michigan or Georgia or Tennessee, and do exactly what Hawaii did last year to Arizona State -- send them crying home to momma.

Enough is enough. Urban Meyer has done little more than run up Tebow's numbers against non-ranked, non-conference, non-I-A opponents, garnering attention they don't deserve. It's a well-worn business, isn't it?

Yesterday, I spoke to a friend of mine at ESPN -- who, for his benefit, will remain unnamed. I asked him -- "Why do you guys spend hours explaining how BAD Notre Dame is, instead of explaining why Hawaii can even be included in a conversation about the Heisman, or the BCS?"

"Because," he said, "we're talking about the difference between Hawaii, and Notre Dame."

Well, friends, it's time to truly START talking about the difference between Hawaii, Notre Dame, Florida, USC and all the rest of the rest.

Fact is, Hawaii is the worst nightmare of the BCS, ESPN, and college football in general. Nobody wants to address the issue. The media acts like little kids who think that pulling the covers over their heads will save them from the boogeyman under the bed.

Wrong. The boogeyman is real, and this time, I pray, eats the BCS and all of its suitors alive.

I hope Kansas and Hawaii win out, and wreaks havoc on the entire system. However, I get the feeling that the pollsters will continue to quietly move up USC or Ohio State or another 'name' school -- while ignoring the obvious:

June Jones and Hawaii Warrior Football are no longer a farce, but a force. No one knows this better than DB Josh Barrett and his imposter Arizona State teammates, or Purdue, or Alabama, or the cowards at Michigan State.

Can you imagine an NFL season where an NFL playoff team gets the first-round bye, only be told that a non-qualifying team with a WORSE record 'leapfrogged' them to play in the AFC/NFC championship?

    Are you kidding me?

Hats off to what June and his coaches -- and the players -- have accomplished.

Just win. I must believe that in a few weeks, the dust will settle, and all will learn what we already know: What June has done in the middle of the ocean -- halfway to Japan -- should be considered impossible.

For all of us to be caught up in any 'race' of any kind, outside of winning a game here or there, is ridiculous, on the face of it. Yet here we are, on the cusp of greatness, with the world turning up its nose ... all the better to motivate and castigate our boys into making history.

It won't be the first time a war started on the shores of Hawaii, and like the last one, the great people who live there, play there and CARE there will do what they do best:

    Find a way to win.

like june says, we can't worry about what we can't control. but it's pretty hard to ignore what seems like bias in the system. voters, whether on purpose or not, will always want to put a "name" team like usc, texas and florida above a team like hawaii, even if those name teams have have multiple losses -- and against teams like stanford, kansas state and auburn (another name team with a bunch of losses.) same reason why heisman voters will ignore colt once again, and support their bias with statements about playing in the wac, playing in a "system" or whatever else they can think of. they can't be bothered to look through all those supposed demerits and see that colt's a great player and this is a great team. that would actually take more thought than a knee-jerk reaction, so it's too much work.

anyway, as they say, look at the scoreboard! this team is a winner, and it'll be hard to deny them if they're undefeated at the end of the year. i'm just glad we still moved up a spot in the BCS despite a drop in the polls. perhaps the robots will save the day after all.

and going back to florida, all i gotta say is gooooo florida state! i'm not sure if you have to deal with their crazy fans as well, haha. keep on representing UH in the sunshine state, and i still look forward to receiving your book! i think they shipped it to me via slow boat or something.

FYI -- Good news -- all the books have been shipped by Bess Press, and they should start arriving around the country any day now. Props to everyone for your patience -- but know this ... the introductory price is far less than the $70 that those autographed by June are now fetching. I appreciate everyone's support, rest assured, and can't wait for you, Tombo, to enjoy your book!

As for the 'system,' I'm tired of hearing about that, too. If a running back rushes for 200 yards in a 'system' offense -- the wishbone, veer, Pistol, option, you name it -- he still wins the Heisman and gets praised for maximizing his team's opportunities within the system.

Colt throws for 500 yards, and the same TV clowns say their mothers could do the same thing running June's system.

Isn't it the point of a 'system' -- any 'system' -- to put the athletes you have in the best position to win? And don't great players rise to excellence running whatever system wherein they're placed?

Is the kid at Kansas -- all five feet of him -- doing a good job in their system? Is the kid at Missouri, who is smaller than a valet at Olive Garden, doing a great job in their system? How about West Virginia, where their quarterback is roughly the same size as my 12-year-old? Yes, they are all good college quarterbacks ... in their own respective SYSTEMS.

But dare say the words Run 'n' Shoot, and suddenly, we are the pariahs of the nation. This, in spite of the fact, that BECAUSE of Mouse and June, the entire nation -- and the NFL -- now runs four wides in some knock-off of what those two guys CREATED. Period.

The only difference is this: Name the only college head coach in the nation who STARTED the four-wide movement, and broke every professional record known to man, used it to put both an AFC and NFC team in their respective conference championships, and helped two quarterbacks to the NFL Hall of Fame.

    June Jones.

Here's some trivia, Tombo, to keep you guys busy -- instead of chewing your fingernails -- as you count the hours to Boise State:

Who was Bobby Hebert's head coach during his ONLY Pro Bowl season?

Who was Jeff George's head coach during his ONLY Pro Bowl season?

Who coached the Atlanta Falcons when they became the ONLY team in NFL history to have a quarterback throw for more than 4,500 yards; four wide receivers catch balls for more than 1,000 APIECE; and a back RUSH for more than 1,000?

Who was Jim Kelly's position coach in 1984 when he became the most prolific passer in pro football history?

Who was hired by Jerry Glanville to coach a dejected Warren Moon, who was ready to quit football -- only to go on to break every record in the history of Houston Oilers' football and wind up in the Hall of Fame?

Who was Chris Miller's coach during his ONLY Pro Bowl season?

Who was the ONLY coach capable of coaching the uncoachable Ryan Leaf to his ONLY 300-yard game?

Finally ... who is the only coach capable of rewriting the NCAA record books in such a way that Hawaii, like it or not, will be forced to be mentioned for generations to come?

What June Jones has done for countless players, coaches, teams, and now, the Hawaii program, is immeasurable.

It's an honor to call him my friend -- and equally embarrassing to see him, and the great people of Hawaii -- not get the respect they deserve.

    P.S. -- You're right -- Go Florida State!
