No More Texting

Today, the NCAA completely banned coaches from sending text messages to recruits, effective August 1st. Our very own Jeff Reinebold has something to say about that.
Hawaii defensive line coach Jeff Reinbold, who has been a head coach in the Canadian Football League and in NFL Europe, said the text ban punishes the non-BCS Conference schools that are fighting to compete with the big boys.

"We're going to have to do a better job than those other schools and do more because of these limitations now when it comes to building a relationship," Reinbold said. "It's going to make it tougher for a program like ours that's fighting to make the jump into the top 25. It's these type of limitations that kind of hold schools like us back and allow the fat to get fatter."
You tell em! The funny thing is that e-mails are still allowed... which begs the question, does the NCAA realize you can send e-mails from your phone too? Anyway, Reinebold is on it:
"As competitive as recruiting is, the places that do an outstanding job – places like Florida, USC and Ole Miss – those schools will lead the way in finding another avenue to access these players," Reinbold (sic) said.

"For all of us maybe in a different financial situation than those schools, we're going to have to make sure we hit every avenue that we can to keep our name in front of the kids. In a way, it's going to come down to the old style of recruiting where you're finding creative ways to keep your name there in front of the prospects. Whether that's through their girlfriends, high school coaches, a friend or somebody in their family, you're going to have to go back to how things were when you had to hustle harder than the other guy."
Well, whatever the NCAA says, I'm glad Jeff will be hustling to make Warriors a better football team. Big props to the Sun God.

    Tombo,
I want to share a story about Reinbold that I had forgotten about. This tells what type of guy he is. My father, brother and I flew out to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama game. We walked into Bear Bryant stadium w/ nearly full w/ 90k Alabama fans. All the Hawaii fans were on the same bus so we all walked into the stadium together while the Warriors were warming up. At the time I didn't know what Reinbold looked like, but I saw this golden hair guy in a green aloha shirt walk across the field to the Hawaii fans walking into the stadium. He called out to us and walked up to the fence and leaned over and shook our hands and personally thanked us for coming to the game and wearing our green shirts. He looked me in the eyes and meant it when he said it. Its no wonder the players like him and want to play for him. With his commitment to the Warriors, who knows, maybe he may be the next UH coach????!!!!

Great story Niall! That's cool you guys got to go up to Bama. What a guy, that Reinebold. I hope June is around a long long time, but if he ever retires, I hope Reinebold will have stuck around long enough to take over. We're lucky to have him in any capacity. Thanks again.

Maybe you guys need to hear from some Winnipeg fans about Mr. Reinbold.

But saying that although I heard about it on the news I was too young to fully appreciate (or hate) what we affectionatly call the 'Reinbold Era' so I cannot judge the man. Perhaps he has stepped his game and stopped hypnotizing players to get wins.

    hi

    another winnipeg persone here -
i would one would like to thank jeff for what he did here - He was handed a stinker of a team.
This is a fact - when he came here, all, repeat _ALL_ our top players went into retirement. He basically had no chance. I am glad to see that he has bounced back. The people of winnipeg are horrible people. I know, I am a total a-hole myself. Basically the team management was able to pin their uselessness on him. Proof - what has wpg done since his departure - nothing-
still a bunch of losers. Winnipeg - the cith of losers - once again - I know I live here and I am a loser.......
