WitP: Mighty Mouse, Ingram
Chad Owens won his sixth CFL player of the week award today.
Team records are crumbling and league records are in jeopardy of falling as electrifying WR/KR Chad Owens continues to tear through the CFL. Owens has now earned a single-season team-high six CFL Player of the Week awards (weeks 2, 7, 12, 14, 17 and now 18), and for the second straight week he has been named a unanimous selection for CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. And Jake Ingram talks about overcoming his on-field struggles from a week ago.
Owens is flying high as he leads Toronto’s only playoff-bound club into the post-season. In week 18 against Montreal, the Fly’n Hawaiian accumulated 308 all-purpose yards and became just the fifth player in CFL history to record 1,000 punt and kickoff return yards in a season.
Two weeks ago long snapper Jake Ingram got caught in a web of mistakes against the Chargers. He was tagged for a penalty, and botched two punt snaps that Zoltan Mesko was able to save. Ingram had a good week of practice and was back on track Sunday. “It was huge,’’ said Ingram about building on a positive week. “You always want to bounce back from something just like that. I had fun this week.’’ Ingram said his struggles were “just one of those things,’’ and he doesn’t expect the problems to reappear.
