Hawaii 31, Army 28

Holy crap what a nerve-wracking game. The most important thing was UH pulled out the victory!

The Good:

Bryant Moniz was 25 of 36 for 343 yards and 3 TDs. He looked especially sharp early on and in the final 17 second drive to set up the game-winning field goal.

Kealoha Pilares caught 6 passes for 104 yards and 1 TD.

Scott Enos has been on the money.

John Hardy-Tuliau had what turned out to be a game-changing blocked kick.

The Bad:

After a strong start, the UH defense could not keep Army off the field, especially in the second half. Here's the time of possession stats for the game:

Army -- 37:59
UH -- 22:01

And for the second half:

Army -- 24:45
UH -- 5:15

UH defense allowed 250 rushing yards.

Either Army's pass rush is better than USC's, or the offensive line took a step back this week. Looks like Army mixed up the blitzes and just had a great gameplan.

Spencer Smith left the game with what looked like a serious arm injury.

UPDATE: Looks like Spencer Smith has a broken arm. GoArmySports.com has a post-game quote from Coach Greg McMackin:
(Ref.: condition of Spencer Smith)
"Spencer is one of our best players and he broke his forearm so I'm not sure how long he's out, but I'm sure he's out quite a bit. That's a real loss. He was one of the captains of our first game. He's a leader and a great player. He's going to be greatly missed."

Here's the game summary from the Star-Advertiser.

The AP has a game summary.
The Warriors won after Kamalu Umu forced Black Knights quarterback Max Jenkins to fumble at the Hawaii 27-yard line with 24.3 seconds remaining.

Officials originally ruled that Jenkins was down for a 1-yard rush before video replays overturned the call.

our secondary needs to learn how to wrap up. there were too many times in today's game and also in the usc game, where we went for the big hit instead of going for the sure tackle. that led to a lot of broken tackles and more yards for the other team.

Like last year, our D is not all that great. Especially when it comes to stopping and run and tackling. Its something that has to be stopped or we aren't gonna do all that well this year. Our D has to help out our dangerous Offense.
Sorry about Spencer Smith ): ...I saw the replay and it didn't look very good. I'm glad we have depth at the secondary but still, Spencer will be missed.

yeah, sucks about spencer smith. he's a solid defender. i have a feeling once the defense gels and gets on the same page (or 413 pages) this defense is gonna rock. hope it doesn't take too long!
