Na Koa Report, Practice Reports

uhwarriors' Na Koa Lunch report for this week is up on Na Koa's website. Here's an excerpt:
Coach Rolovich said they aren’t going under center as much as they originally planned. The quarterbacks have an easier time making the reads and throws out of the shotgun. One of the benefits of spending time going under center is that the quarterbacks now have better footwork getting into position to throw and that is a significant benefit.
Dave Reardon writes that Greg Alexander will get the start at QB, with Inoke Funaki platooning. Some other news and notes:
Also, Desmond Thomas will start at free safety, the coach said. Keith AhSoon will make the trip, and has taken plenty of reps at left guard. When he does so, Laupepa Letuli slides over to left tackle.
And Stephen Tsai writes about the dilemma coaches have over who will make the 64-player travel roster for the two-game road trip.

I hope they provide some protection. ( Ahsoon and Leituli ) The damage will come from the right side..where Steinhoff hasn't blocked anyone. At Boise, Keoni " the statue " was allowing guys pass him before he was out of his stance. He should return his tuition money..seriously.

The Na Koa Lunch report was interesting but just wanted to add something else about Utah State so people don't think they are such a weak team.

Utah State had a tough 2008 schedule so that their record of 1-7 may be a little misleading. Three of their losses were to the following ranked opponents (at the time of the game):

Sept. 6 Utah State lost 24-66 to 18th ranked Oregon

Sept. 13 Utah State lost 10-58 to 22nd ranked Utah

Oct. 3 Utah State lost 13-34 to 8th ranked BYU

    http://utahstateaggies.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/102708aab.html

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE -- According to the NCAA, Utah State has the toughest schedule in the WAC for both games against Football Bowl Subdivision teams (ranked 41st overall) and for all games including games against FBS and Football Championship Series teams (tied for No. 36 overall)... Hawai'i is third in the WAC in both categories:

    FBS Only:
    WAC NCAA
Rank Rank Team Cumulative Opposition Record Win Pct.
    1 41 Utah State 41-35 / .539
    3 83 Hawai'i 34-41 / .453

    FBS and FCS: WAC NCAA Rank Rank Team Cumulative Opposition Record Win Pct. 1 T-36 Utah State 50-35 / .588 3 86 Hawai'i 47-42 / .528

It would be nice for Leituli to move over to left tackle. Kia #77, has allowed the pocket to collapse more than Steinhoff.

All the games I've watched Kia just can't stay with his man or get his footwork working, so on film his side has become a target as the weaker blocker.

Steinhoff does slightly a better job than Kia, hopefully through his experience he can improve on his footwork.
