From the Blogs: Brian K, Deyon, Rain
Dave Reardon writes that UH grad assistant Brian Kajiyama is the first nominee for the FedEx Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award.
The Warrior Insider profiles cornerback Deyon McElroy, who recently accepted a scholarship with UH.
Kajiyama, 30, is in his first season as a graduate assistant with the Warriors. A longtime Hawaii football fan, Kajiyama was born with cerebral palsy, but has accomplished more with the disability than many without the disability accomplish in a lifetime.Congratulations to Brian!
The Warrior Insider profiles cornerback Deyon McElroy, who recently accepted a scholarship with UH.
“Honestly the fact that the football team has a very good program, send players to the NFL, and who in there right mind would pass up an offer from Hawaii!” said McElroy about why he committed to Hawaii. And Stephen Tsai writes that it's raining today in Houston. And also some team awards for the LaTech game were given out:
Deyon McElroy is a corner with great size and the ability to make big plays. Last year at Chaffey College Deyon had 6 interceptions and 20 passes broken up and was All-Foothill Conference First Team.
Last night, June Jones said slotback Ryan Grice-Mullins (offense), defensive end David Veikune (defense) and kicker Dan Kelly (special teams) were named the Players of the Game against Louisiana Tech.
Each will receive a special decal.

Is it just me or are the Warriors getting A LOT of corner recruits?
It's good but I swear I've seen like 6-7 corners from just the 07-08 list alone.
What baffles me is the lack of QB/WR recruits. Obviously we probably won't get the 5 or high 4 star recruits but it bothers me when 3 and some 4 star recruits of that caliber have schools like Washington State and Vanderbilt over us. I guess the facilities really are that bad in comparison.

its not just you. i believe it makes sense to recruit the defense because hawaii is naturally known as a high octane offense.
UH is working on that top QB at mater dei (?) and receivers naturally just end up at UH.
i was wondering the same thing too until a few bloggers made it clear.
as far as the facilities go, in my opinion, Herman needs to jump on this. enough with the travel and getting olympians to train at UH. sure there's perfect weather but the elevation isn't that great. lets focus on the sport that gives the school more revenue. a possible BCS berth with 17 million in the pot. jump on that herman.

yeah, there have been a lot of DB recruits, but i can understand that with myron, gerard and patek being seniors this year. they probably want as much competition going for next year and beyond.
but i agree, we need facilities upgrades!
