WAC, Monteilh, Slipper Deal, Fehoko, Smith

Stephen Tsai writes about Fresno State's BCS dreams, and takes a look at each team in the WAC.

Billy Hull profiles UH safety Keao Monteilh.
Once almost too skinny to play Pop Warner football at age 11, Monteilh says he's close to 200 pounds after arriving at UH at around 170.

The extra weight and increased speed give Monteilh a confidence that has spread its way to the entire defensive unit.

"Defense-wise, our attitude is we're going to line up and we're going to beat you," Monteilh said. "No matter what you throw at us, that is how we think. We've got the attitude that we're going to take you 1-on-1."
Hull also takes a preseason look at the WAC teams.

Dave Reardon writes that Coach Greg McMackin might have a slipper deal in the works.
Greg McMackin free-toes it often at practice and whenever else he can. This led Rob DeMello of KUMU-1500’s Russ and Rob Show to ask Shoeless Mack why he doesn’t have a slipper deal yet.

One thing led to another, and now UH is in serious negotiations with Scott Hawaii, producers of fashionable flip flops.
Tsai writes that Whitley Fehoko is leaving Portland State to possibly join UH, and that Daniel Smith, who filed a lawsuit against UH for allegedly reneging on a scholarship offer, has joined PSU as a walk-on.
Fehoko, who originally played at San Diego State, left there and signed a scholarship agreement with Portland State. But because of family reasons, he wanted to return to Hawai‘i. The release allows him to contact UH.
Tsai also has an ad featuring Leonard Peters that will appear in ESPN the Magazine.

Daniel Smith's lawsuit reminds me of that lady who just won 150K because her fiance called off the wedding.

Hey franksabunch, so is that like a pre marriage walk away divorce settlement?

If he joined PSU as a walk-on, you have to wonder why he just didn't accept the UH walk-on offer that was given before filing the lawsuit against UH--at least a higher level of play. Makes me wonder if his capability if not good enough for UH level--and as for PSU, he still needs to walk-on and prove himself anyway.

Feheko sure seems to be going all over the place--and here he is giving up a scholarship at PSU and may not have anything but a chance at walk-on at UH. Hope nothing bad happening to Vili--or fanily.

NOTE: Two players listed under "Fall Additions" on the spring roster are also not listed on the current website roster - freshman wide receiver Brandon Dunlap and junior transfer Whitley Fehoko, an offensive lineman. I don't know anything about Dunlap, but I know Fehoko was one of the transfers the coaching staff was most excited about. Fehoko's dad is the University of Hawaii's mascot and Whitley is supposed to be quite the player. Last I heard, his status was a question of qualifying academically.

Funny how almost no information coming out of Florida regarding UH's first opponent.

Found this--I know this is not really about the Warriors but interesting reading for Warrior fans to start knowing about them Gators.

    Florida Team Report

Yahoo! Sports Jul 18, 8:24 pm EDT

    Strategy And Personnel

2008 Outlook: A quick look at Florida’s coaching changes tells you what areas were targeted for improvement by head coach Urban Meyer. If new assistants Dan McCarney (defensive line), Vance Bedford (cornerbacks) and Kenny Carter (running backs) make even modest improvements, the Gators could challenge Georgia for SEC East supremacy and a BCS berth. The schedule is no cakewalk, but after navigating the nation’s toughest schedule in 2006 and third toughest in 2007, at least the 2008 slate sets up favorably with three weeks between games against Tennessee (Sept. 20), LSU (Oct. 11) and Georgia (Nov. 1).

Scouting The Offense: On Aug. 30, Hawaii becomes the first opponent to find out what happens when you add even more wrinkles to a dynamic spread offense that already features a record-setting Heisman Trophy winner and NFL-caliber talent at every skill position. Meyer promises to return to a two-quarterback system, with Cam Newton relieving Tim Tebow. Florida experimented with the no-huddle and adding a fullback this spring and added two-tight end formations to make full use of senior Cornelius Ingram and sophomore Aaron Hernandez. Tebow and WR Percy Harvin (if healthy) will still get plenty of carries, but the tailback talent is there to give Meyer his first 1,000-yard rusher in Gainesville.
