Ticket Prices May Drop

Ferd Lewis writes that the UH athletics department is seeking to reduce ticket prices.
It is seeking permission to lower the price of at least some tickets in all six of the sports for which it currently charges admission — baseball, football, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's volleyball and men's volleyball.

Not only could this be an historical milestone as the first across-the-board slash in school history, it flies in the face of what had been standard operating procedure at the school for several years. For too many seasons when attendance declined the reaction was: Raise prices! When crowds dwindled further the thought was: Raise 'em some more!

    Thanks Tombo.

My thoughts on pricing has been the same since I was a student. Make admission free for kids in school, but limit the number of free admission. After that, make pricing reasonable so we can fill the stands. Money should be made on consessions and UH clothes.

from what i heard, UH doesn't make anything on concessions and a very small percentage on sales of UH merchandise. i hope that's being looked at as well.

Why doesn't the athletic department run concessions and why doesn't the athletic department make special merchandise where the profits only go to the athletic department?

not sure why, but here's a comment from stephen tsai i found from last year. not sure if it's still the case, or if it'll change anytime soon:

"The H logo merchandise benefits the auxilary service department. As noted earlier, the athletic department's cut is 40 percent of 8 percent of the profit. For every $50 jersey sold, the athletic department gets $1.60."

that is peanuts! that is why we get a deficit. may we need to start naming the dorms, fields, weight room and other places after corporate sponsors. Also, pray that Brennan makes good on his promise to get NFL guys to donate back to the school.
