Sugar Bowl News

So I just plunked down a big chunk of non-refundable money to go to this game. Wooooooooo!!!! Now I just gotta ask my boss for the time off. Woops. Oh man, but that's okay, it's the biggest game in UH football history and I just have to go support the Warriors and the rest of the fans making the trek up. New Years in New Orleans, Hawaii vs Georgia, David vs Goliath, gonna be a crazy experience. Be there!

UHBows uploaded video of Fox's BCS selection show, visiting the fans, band, Colt and June in the Stan Sheriff Center earlier today:

In this AP article by Charles Odum, Georgia coaches and players expressed a little disappointment over not getting to play in a national championship. But further down the article... did Georgia just call dibs on wearing black unis?
After the Sugar Bowl announcement, Richt told his players they will wear the black jerseys they unveiled in an emotional win over Auburn.

Richt also called on Georgia fans to again wear black.

"Let's see if we can relive a little of that excitement," Richt said.

Richt said the Georgia players celebrated the announcement about the black jerseys.

"We're excited obviously to get to play in those," said quarterback Matthew Stafford. "It's going to be fun, but it really boils down to us playing a great football team."
Are they the home team? Is that why? Oh well, would've been cool to see UH in their home uniforms... Then again, UH has had a lot of great wins in their road unis.

Here's another AP article covering the selection of both teams.
"Sugar is definitely sweet," Brennan said. "We're going to do it Hawaiian style."
And Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution takes a look at the matchup.
Matchup that worries Hawaii? Stopping Knowshon Moreno and Georgia's running game. The Rainbows are better than you might think against the run. They rank 39th nationally in rush defense, 33rd in total defense and 40th in scoring defense. Their linebackers are fast and physical, and they hit hard. But they haven't encountered the kind of rushing attack they'll see from the Bulldogs, who undoubtedly will lean on it more than usual in an attempt to keep Hawaii's offense on the sideline. Loading up to stop the run will make Matthew Stafford's play-action game even more lethal.

I heard Richt explain on BCS show of FSN that they are the home team because they are the higher ranked team coming into the bowl.

Hawaii looks better in their black uni's than UGA does... too bad... fear Darth Ha'a ;)

Historically, the SEC team is considered the home team in the sUGAr Bowl. This is why Georgia got first consideration when it came to uniform choice.

You probably know that we wore black home jerseys against Auburn this year for the first time in the modern era. Coach Richt said on his subsequent TV show that as a gift to the seniors he'd allow them to wear the jerseys one more time if we were the home team in whichever bowl we got invited to.

I'd suggest to the UH fans who make it that you wear green or white. If the Auburn game was any indication then 99% of the UGA fans will be decked out in black.

I am from New Orleans. I just wanted to check in with you guys. This is the SEC's traditional bowl game. Don't sweat the uniform situation. Oh, and Mark Richt has been acting like a punk the last couple of days. It'll pass once the angst over the MNC dies down.

Next, I am just wondering how many of your fans plan on traveling to the game. I know it is a big committment. If anyone has any questions about the city, I'd be happy to try to answer them for you. I think you guys will have a great time in the city, unless a nasty northern cold front moves through the area, in which case it could be much colder than you are used to. Otherwise, temps normally are about 65 during the day at this point of the year, our coldest. I may not check in on this blog a lot, so feel free to shoot me a note at geaux_jazz@yahoo.com

    Good luck! :)

I would suggest UH wearing the green jersey's. It will hide the grass stains after the UGA defense hammers them. After seeing Moreno break one up the gut the first time, UH might want to wear the brown pants.

hobnail_boot, thanks for the clarification. that's cool, UH fans will be a sea of green, though i'm sure a lot of them will want to wear their black brennan jerseys.

geaux_jazz, not sure how many people on the hawaii side are going, but i'm already hearing about a lot of people making plans who wouldn't otherwise spend that kind of money... we appreciate the info and your hospitality. i'll e-mail you if i have any questions. thanks!

    Boot and Jazz,
Thanks for your input and suggestions. As a die hard Warrior fan, I can only say that this is a huge opportunity for us to play a big name school like yours with such a tremendous reputation. We have never come this far before and are very excited about it. We are hoping our team will do their best and make it a game for you guys. It is unfortunate that some folks are knocking us for doing our best and getting where we are. Since when has that ever been reason for criticism? Anyway, here's to wishing both teams an exciting game and that no one is seriously injured.

I would suggest that you guys keep dreaming of what could have been.....It's time to play "big boy" football and it really doesn't matter what you wear because a beat down is coming.

Now you get to see what REAL football is like. Your boy is not even gonna see the field and when he does he's gonna feel the pain. Just ask Boise State what happened the last time they tried to get cute and take on the dogs.

Sorry you guys are gonna have to pay for the sins of the pollsters.

UGA student here. Just googled hawaii sports blog and this site came up. I wanted to research you guys because honestly as much as I would love to say I stay up until 3AM ESt to watch all of your games I don't.

Anyway, i think everyone here is really excited to play yall and to see what exactly this whole so called "gimmick/system" offense is all about.

I would love to be cocky and brag that I think we will crush you but I really think it will be a great game and has interesting matchups for both sides. See yall in NO

8 men on the line with blitz packages, stuntz, drop backs zones on the inside and most important grind Moreno and Brown. Let them try to beat us by the air not the ground. Key word is inside and early. Stop the run. Hawaii's got a chance. Hawaii should get some inside scoops from Florida (everyone run out on the field)... Gets some tapes Coach Jones>> And then turn around tell Geogia next year where we got the tapes and inside scoop from so they can give up some Florida input before the first game. And the jersey thing. Hawaii needs to where the whites. Have white out in the dome. Just bring the white t-shirts, put it over the green jerseys yeah.. Going to a bowl game with any of top 5 SEC teams is as good as a National Championship. We beta take advantage, cause dem dawgs can run boy. Business first party next. Go Bows Go.. Or Warriors. Bring da Limu.

It doesn't matter if hawaii gets tapes of other teams. it wouldn't of made a difference if GEORIGA played there second string players. Hawaii would of still got destroyed. SEC is too strong. listen the best football players in the WORLD are from Texas,Oklahoma,Lousianna,Alabama,Florida and so on. Hawaii had no business in a BCS game we all new that except hawaii. Now if they go 12-0 again stick to the aloha bowl bra and go to the wikks and get some saved ice.
