The magic BCS ranking to get to is 12. Hawaii is currently #15. With #9 Oregon and #13 Texas losing Hawaii should move up to #13. The interesting team is Arizona State at #6. I wonder if they will fall behind Hawaii after losing to USC? Oregon will fall much further than Arizona State because they got shutout by an unranked team and their starting QB is done for the season. This will affect the human polls which are part of the BCS ranking.

Even if Hawaii is at #13 come Sunday evening there is still hope to move up to #12. Virginia Tech will be playing Boston College in the ACC Championship game. One of those teams have to lose which would likely drop them behind Hawaii. Not to mention Oklahoma still has Missouri, USC still has UCLA and if Arizona State doesn't fall behind Hawaii they still have Arizona.

The only team that has a realistic chance at jumping Hawaii is #18 Tennessee. They had an impressive win over Kentucky on the road and play LSU for the SEC title next week.

Being in the top 12 of the BCS guarantees Hawaii a BCS bowl but being in the top 16 makes them eligible.

The bottom line is take care of a very competitive Washington team next week (strongest SOS in the country) and Hawaii will be in a BCS bowl, likely the Sugar Bowl vs. LSU.

that's a great breakdown, rmcc4444. thanks! yeah, with texas losing and oregon losing in the ugliest way possible, plus the computer polls probably kicking UH up a lot more, i'm optimistic UH will move up at least two spots tomorrow.

the ACC championship game will help next week -- hopefully one of those teams gets blown out. arizona's been playing good of late, ucla always gets up for usc, so things are looking up to get into guaranteed territory.

of course all of this is moot if the warriors can't beat washington. they look very good with locker and their running backs. it'll be a great game, and they'll be very wary of not having a letdown.

thanks again for your analysis of the polls and how it affects hawaii. stop by any time!

    I forgot to respond. :)

Washington is no slouch. They had the toughest schedule in the country this year and played most games competitively. Don't let their record fool you. They beat Boise State, only lost to USC by 4 and beat Cal. They also just lost to a pretty bad Washington State team so you really don't know what you'll get from them.
