Games of Note - 9/8/07

First off, just wanted to give big props to LaTech. I hope they're as good the rest of the year as they were tonight against UH. As for the Warriors, this is definitely a game that will bring them together and make them stronger. To get through all that, the turnovers, the mistakes, the great play by the Bulldogs, and still come out with a victory on the road says a lot about the team.

Anyway, here are some games of note from around college football today.

South Carolina beat #11 Georgia 16-12.

South Florida beat #17 Auburn 26-23.

#7 Texas beat #19 TCU 34-13.

Washington beat #22 Boise State 24-10.

Fresno State almost pulled off the upset against #23 Texas A&M in College Station, finally losing 47-45 in triple OT!

How all this affects Hawaii in the polls will be interesting. The teams that lost will drop, but the teams who pulled off the upsets, including Oregon, which destroyed Michigan in Ann Arbor, will be hot on the heels of UH, and there may be some leapfrogging going on. We'll see how it goes.

I just hope somebody in the Hawaii media actually asks the tough questions this time around.

The holes in the offensive line were apparent, they couldn't even use their trademark shovel pass because there were no holes...which leads to the next comment. There was no ground game AT ALL because they can't decide on a back. I know Jones likes Pilares but 3 carries for 0 yards is not really doing it for me.

The defensive play was truthfully horrific, I lost count of the missed tackles. I hope this was just a bad game that the defense didn't come ready to play because if they play like this against even Fresno State/Nevada, much less Boise State or Jake Locker and Washington, then we won't be Top 25 by the end of this. Hopefully they can build off of this and take it as a wakeup call but this was truly shocking.

By the way, was I the only one who thought the snaps were terrible? It made me appreciate how good Satele was and why he got drafted in the 2nd round.

great analysis. yeah, i'm hoping this will be something to build off of. i'm hoping latech was just a great football team that surprised the warriors. as for the o-line, it was a tough game. latech was bringing all kinds of people, pressuring and hurrying brennan. the national wrap-ups are saying colt had a great game, but by his standards, it wasn't, a lot of it due to that pressure.

as for the defense, their performance really surprised me. they did some good things, but at times it seems latech was running at will. let's hope this was just an anomaly and something that can be adjusted and worked on.

and i did notice the high snaps (and the low), but brennan was grabbing them out of the air like it was nothing. just glad none of them were over his head or in the dirt. this is another thing they can get better at and learn from.

    thanks again, great comments.

Personally? I'm hoping La Tech goes like 8-4 or something. At least by the end of it, the near loss won't look so bad. If they end up like last year though, it's not a good sign for final polls.

For the first time I saw Colt actually visibly shaken from the pounding he was taken. I've seen him take single shots (like Arizona State) and get rattled but he came back. Against La Tech though, it was all day. And yeah, by his standards, it was sub-par. He missed throws (for tds no less) that he usually doesn't and had two weird fumbles. Then again, when I watch superior programs and their qb play across the country, I appreciate Colt even more.

    :o

His hands were something that the scouts notice, they always say he handles bad snaps very well. I just made a point of it because it just adds to the difficulty and more importantly I think one of the bad snaps directly led to the missed exchange between Colt and Leon Jackson on that one fumble.

I just found this blog, it's great.

yeah, the better la tech does, the better it is for them, UH and the conference. i can't imagine anybody having an easy time against them.

colt definitely got a welcome to the football season that he didn't get against northern colorado. i'm glad he came out of that pounding without any big injuries. i think UH will learn a lot from this game.
